meanwhile, some in the GOP seem determined to turn the youth of America against their party forever.
Is it really so difficult to believe that kids who've watched their classmates and peers be gunned down would be motivated to take action?
In another year, those same kids will be old enough to die for their country.
Is Bill suggesting we ignore the survivors of the shooting? This isn't reporters hounding them. They are organizing and speaking out on their own. They don't want to be patted on the head and dismissed.
ETA:
My teenage niece is pretty worked up about the shootings and adamantly pro gun control. Her father (my brother) is a very right-wing Trump supporter. She is not being brainwashed or manipulated by the left. She's a smart young woman with opinions of her own.

Here's a little background on Marjory Stoneman Douglas, the woman for whom the high school was named after and she worked hard for that honor. Whoa. Marjory Stoneman Douglas didn't really start kickin' ass and takin' names until she was 79. Who says some fired-up and made-as-hell teenagers are wrong to demand the change the adults are too cowardly and chickenshit to do? Besides assholes like Jack Kingston and Loofah O'Reilly that is?

I think these kids may well be able to accomplish what their elders haven't -- some sensible gun laws. It's gonna be hard to ignore them or scoff them off without looking like a serious asshole. And it just might force their parents to get in gear, too.
A prediction: Florida goes blue 2020. For a lot of reasons, but this certainly will add to it.

They do look like assholes. And they will pay for it in the not-too-distant future.
I hope someone got some film footage for the 2018 attack ads.

Apparently the laws already in place would have been sufficient had the FBI done the job they were supposed to do.
Just maybe, any new laws should focus on firing "public servants" who fail spectacularly at enforcing laws already on the books.
Seriously, if the current laws aren't being enforced, of what possible value are more words on paper that will also be ignored by those tasked with enforcing them?

Not all the students are on-board with the gun control debate:I don't entirely agree with Mr. Minoff here, but he seems like a thoughtful young man and if we're going to have an honest, open discussion on how to prevent what seems to be another inevitable tragedy, perspectives such as his have to be included and taken seriously. We don't all have to march in lockstep to get to the same destination: saving lives.

While I certainly oppose additional gun control laws on philosophical grounds, I honestly believe the best way to prevent these tragedies is to solve the current problems with the apparent inability to enforce the laws already on the books. The FBI screwed this up royally. Had procedures been followed, it's quite possible that Cruz would not have been able to do this. There are individuals responsible for that failure. Those individuals should already be looking for work, and be investigated for malfeasance.
Until that starts happening, it's impossible to determine the efficacy of the laws currently on the books, and whether additional laws are needed.

Sorry, Don, can't agree. I know gun folks like their toys but enough is fucking enough. We don't need to fix everything in the world before considering if maybe, just maybe, it should be wee bit harder for civilians to lay hands on military weapons.
By the way, this guy here has my vote for douchebag of the year. I admit it -- I wish him some emotional suffering. At the very least, I hope his wretched career tanks. What kind of fuckhead do you have to be to tweet this?

I initially thought this was a photoshop joke, but it is not. There are Trump's notes for his discussion with a select group of the teenagers.

Sorry, Don, can't agree. I know gun folks like their toys but enough is fucking enough. We don't need to fix everything in the world before considering if maybe, just maybe, it should be wee bit harder for civilians to lay hands on military weapons. I'm not sure what gun folks liking their toys have to do with this. Nor did I say anything at all about fixing everything in the world. I won't even disagree with your premise that it should be harder for civilians to lay hands on military-style weapons. I do, however, question how adding additional laws to laws already not being enforced, ore being selectively enforced, will accomplish that goal. Whence the assumption that these new laws will be enforced more thoroughly or less selectively than laws already on the books? I also suggest that perhaps enforcing the laws already on the books, and penalizing those who fail to do so, might prove more effective in addressing the problem of mass shootings than putting more unenforced words on paper to make it appear that something is being done. So how are new laws going to make it harder for civilians to lay hands on military-style weapons, if those new laws aren't enforced any better than the ones that should already have prevented this tragedy if they had been enforced? Why the willingness to give the enforcers a pass for failing to enforce the laws already on the books, while proposing even more laws that will be selectively enforced by the same people who couldn't be bothered to enforce the existing laws? Do you suppose these new laws will be applied as rigorously in the gated communities as in the inner cities? Do you suppose they will be applied with the same regard for the rights of innocents in the inner cities as in the gated communities? Or will they lead to more no-knock raids and more Eric Garners? If a car is rusting, spraying more paint over the rust won't help. You've got to deal with the rust first.
