The defenders of socialism (and some of its critics) always seem to miss an essential point - socialism works, in the short term. As does any command economy. If you have a very poor country with a huge gap between the rich and the poor, moving to something that provides a leveling effect while redistributing resources to address short-term needs is going to dramatically increase the standard of living for much of the population... for a while. So pointing to Bolivia and cooing at what socialism has done for it is like praising how greatly communism improved the life of the average Russian and Chinese peasant. Sure it did. Until the tax (metaphorically and literally) came due.

Socialism creates an inherently unsustainable ecosystem. Micromanaging Yellowstone's ecosystem appeared to be successful for a while, too. Then it was discovered that a managed ecosystem, restrained from adapting and evolving naturally, would suffer massive unintended negative consequences, regardless of the good intentions of the managers. That's the lesson socialism fails to learn, and a lesson our own politicians and population are rapidly forgetting.

I still have no idea how cryptocurrency works or what a block chain is. The whole thing confuses me to no end. Just wanted to note that you're in good company in this regard, Opty. Warren Buffet is clueless about all of this, too: money.cnn.com/2018/05/07/investing/warren-buffett-bitcoin/index.htmlComedy gold. Or should I say comedy bitcoin...
