I think we should have a thread title contest. I'll put my brain to an entry. (Now this is another thing we need Haskins for.)

I am, at first blush, struck by the number of possible euphemisms in this story. We've got a naked man with meat and a toy gun inside a pipe organ...

Okay so I have a general comment to make, and I hope I'm not going to offend anyone buuuuut
Why do people post threads like this? This one, and the one about the girl who defecates to hide drugs, and the one about the masturbator, and about the one a while back about the guy and the fire hydrant....
These people have serious issues. Drug problems, possible other mental issues. It's fucking sad. These people need help. Normal people don't do these things. It's not funny to me. Not to try to claim we should censor anything here, but is this... is this entertaining to people, and if so, WHY? These people are sick and in need of help, therapy, rehabilitation. Drug and alcohol addiction is no joke. I'm not trying to hate on anyone but why do people post these stories and then make jokes?
And it's not anyone here that's prompted me to ask this. I realize it's totally a thing, everywhere. Before I got my AMAZEBALLS TECHNOLOGY-SWANK NEW CAR WITH BLUETOOTH AND PANDORA AND SERIOUSLY RADIO AND COMMERCIALS CAN PISS RIGHT OFF, all I had was the radio--the CD player was broken--so in the morning, when it was talk radio, there was this feature called "Wacked Out News," introduced by a jingle where one of the DJs sang "People hopped up on drugs and booze!" And it ended with "So. Many. People. On. Meth. Wow!" And I always had to turn it off, because I couldn't laugh at the stories. They always made me feel upset. They are actual people fucking up their lives, hurting themselves, and probably others who care about them or need them, and we're... we're going to laugh about how stupid they are? I mean, yeah, they are technically being really stupid, but... fucking hell.

Nice to have something interesting to read about once in a while Okay, that's fair. So you find it interesting? Discuss.

I have no problem with either the OP or Christine's objection to it; both are fair game under forum rules.
But I admit to being especially interested in hearing Mikey pontificate on the topic.

I've been posting these things to show that there are interesting things going on in the world outside of the only two threads people seem to post in here.

Which is partly my fault for combining eleventy million possible threads in my omnibus WTF thread. Also, I haven't seen a cute bee video in ages.

So. I moved the derail to another thread (up in the general section), where I will shortly address it. I'll now proceed to annoy both Christine and Optimus by taking the thread in both of their directions. 'Cause as Mod of Mayhem, that's how I roll. First, for Opty -- some thread title thoughts: The Fried Piper of HamburgsMason's Organ Meat Distribution Program Ends on Sour Note

For Christine --
Having both mental illness and substance abuse in my family, I understand where you're coming from. To note, I have a first cousin whose drug addiction killed her, an aunt who died of alcoholism, and another relative who suffered from psychotic breaks. So, yeah. I get it. Mental illness and substance abuse are not funny.
I think what arrests many of us about these stories is their sheer bizarreness -- I read this and try to picture both the scene and how on earth this guy accomplished this (HOW does one get trapped inside an organ?) and what the reactions were of whoever first came upon him inside the organ with a bag of cheeseburgers. And it just boggles the imagination. Those I've known who went off the rails didn't come close to doing anything nearly this memorable.
I sincerely hope that the craziness of this stunt (at least no one was hurt) and the publicity it got will convince the guy to get the help he clearly needs. Sometimes you've got to hit something rock bottom to wake up and realize you need help (and perhaps for others in your life to realize you need that help).
Storytime, with some facts blurred to protect someone I knew years ago. I knew someone who was extremely smart and successful, but unfortunately had an addiction problem. Over the course of a couple of years, she got into a few scrapes, but very luckily didn't hurt anything but her car. Alas, she had enough connections that she managed to avoid any serious legal repercussions. (Someone with fewer connections might have e.g., lost their driver's license, at the very least.) And so she went on, leading a seemingly successful professional life with this worsening substance abuse problem for which she was getting no help. A few of us who knew her tried to convince her that she needed help, but hell, she really thought she was fine. We succeeded in nothing but getting her to cut us off.
And then it happened. She was arrested having sex (that she didn't even remember) with a stranger in a public place. It made the local paper. It had repercussions. It was awful and humiliating. But that's what finally caused her to realize she needed help. The happy ending: she got it, and last I heard of her (we're not in touch anymore), she was doing very well personally and professionally. Hopefully, this guy will get help, too.
The story about the guy who was ejected from his car seat -- I actually think there's a good shot that was neither mental illness nor substance abuse. I think that guy may unfortunately have gotten sexual arousal from the danger of masturbating while driving. Some people have very dangerous kinks. Unfortunately, that guy's kink could have hurt someone else too.

Christine's objection is a fair one, but also a futile one.
We like to point and laugh. We like to watch trainwrecks. It's why all the drama subreddits and Tumblr pages exist. How many times have you read and laughed at the Darwin Awards? These are people who may have been high, mentally ill, or just plain stupid, but however it happened, is it really humane to laugh at people managing to kill themselves in often gruesome and painful ways? Does being an idiot mean you deserve to die horribly and then have people laugh at your death?
So I get the objection, I just think asking people not to be entertained by fools/drunks/crazy people doing ridiculous things (which often result in death, maiming, and/or criminal charges) is pushing against human nature.

I get where Christine is coming from and I should, if I'm being honest, admit I was trying to think of an entry of funny thread title when I read her comment.
I also agree with Amadan, that it's human nature. In this case, the fact that he was naked, and it involved an organ and pipes? That's a little hard to overlook.
I'm not sure if this is mental illness, or even substance abuse problems as much as it might be a 1 time got drunk and got into a very embarrassing situation. I still laugh when I hear Robin Williams in my head talking about getting drunk or high and getting that call the day after.
"I did what?
I took a dump in your tuba?
Oh you said sit in with the band, I'm sorry!"
If this were fiction, we'd laugh.
Hell, it would be hard to write this in a scene and be taken seriously.
We can laugh at it and still have sympathy for the poor guy.
