Update on Gov. Cuomo's attempt to help the kids dumped in NY State -- he's making progress. Every state governor needs to be doing this kind of thing.

So. My wistful, deep-in-my-heart-of-hearts, I-wish-we-could-do-it-this way, softie-mcsoftie extra-liberal overly-idealistic position on immigration is...essentially the 1980 GOP position. ' haggis ? Can you tell me a bedtime story? What happened to this GOP?

(5) Stephen Miller strangled and ate the children. ( haggis likely favors that one.) I'm a carnivore. What do you expect?

You're a carnivorous chihuahua. You know all about animals. How in the wide, wide world of sports did the GOP go from people applauding open borders to caging babies in 38 years?
ETA:
Also, why aren't they yelling to lock their opponent up and comparing hand sizes?
I'm confused.

I mean, when are they going to brag about their crowds?

This policy was the last straw for George Will, too.

Trump now says voting on any bill would be "pointless" until after the "red wave" in November, yet still somehow manages to blame the Democrats.
Wonder how Ryan is enjoying the bus he was tossed under.

From the Red Cross:
A whole bunch of organizations and state and local agencies, not to mention individuals and churches, are ready and eager to help....if the Trump administration permits them to do so.

The clip below is ten minutes long, and mostly is rehashing facts and arguments we've discussed it in this thread. I'm attaching it for the interviews with people at Trump rallies--in particular, the woman at about 5:50.
If you don't want to watch/fast forward to that point, the woman is sobbing, saying "He tries so hard and people are so down on him."
Meaning Trump. Meaning how very hard he's worked to fix the drugged caged orphaned kids situation he created, and still everyone is picking on him. Because we all know who the real victim in this situation is, amirite?
I'll admit I too have shed some tears at this situation, and as you all know, have been very emotional. But, yanno, it's been at the plight of terrified, innocent children ripped from parents they may never see again, shipped far way, to cry in cages among strangers who aren't permitted to hug them even if they wanted to, and drugged when they won't stop crying. All done deliberately by a government that represents me.
I have few tears left for whiny adults with petty grievances -- particularly when their grievance is that people are blaming them for their own despicable, feckless, callous policies that brought on immense misery for others.

Here, I still have some tears for this. (A mother and her small son being reunited after a month apart.) Video at this tweet (longer than the short clips of a hug at most news sites I can find.)
It's important to remember -- if the Fake Media hadn't been trumpeting this, we likely wouldn't even know it was happening, or have a clue just how bad it was. Actually, we still don't really know, since the Trump admin still won't let anyone, even Senators and local agencies and representatives, into the facilities, nor will they so much as release photographs from them. What has been released by the Trump administration has been very much handpicked -- and the rest has been the result of representatives and press who pretty much stormed facilities (the ones they were able to locate), demanded entrance, and got some footage/audio/information.

Meanwhile, our Dear POTUS is at a rally, literally autographing photographs of murder victims killed by undocumented immigrants. Jesus Christ.
Reminder -- the rate of crimes committed by undocumented immigrants is actually lower than that committed by U.S. citizens. They are not a group of dangerous thugs, as the alt-right want you to believe. They are a group of desperate people trying to make a better life for themselves.
We may or may not be able to assimilate them all; we can debate on that, and how best to handle the sitation. But tell me this, those who would scream "but they're ilLEEEGGGal and therefore deserve whatever heinous thing befalls them!": if the United States became a dangerous hellhole, and you and your children were hungry, and you were terrified they might not even get a chance to grow up, and Canada was a land of comparative peace and plenty, are you telling me that you would not be bundling up your kids and trying to get to Canada any way you could?
They are going to come, as long as that is the case. And we are going to spend some cash and resources dealing with it -- it is a question of how we allocate them.
Whether we allow some or all of these people to live in our country or not (and I'm with Reagan and GHWB that we could and should allow far more in than we do), I submit that whatever we do with them, we should remember that there but for the grace of God, the spaghetti monster, and/or sheer luck, there go we, and treat them accordingly.
ETA:
And to hardline "we gotta do what we gotta do on immigration, and hey they brought it on themselves" folks who call themselves Christians, I have to ask, what would Jesus do?

Oh, yes indeed, we have some constitutional issues with what the Trump administration is doing, even if we were to limit it only to the adults and set the children aside.
I submit that the Trump administration knows perfectly well that this is not kosher, but does not care. I predict that the Trump administration continues to push further and further against the constitution, the rule of law, humanitarianism, and common decency because they know it's what Trump's hardest-core base loves, and they are confident that enough apologists will continue to look the other way and/or rationalize it that Trump can, ultimately, shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and get away with it.

ETA: Please do watch the video. Obviously, the first thing that strikes one is the mother's overt, eloquent grief. But the kid -- it's clear just how traumatized he is. He is not joyfully crying "mama! mama!" All he can do is sit there, mute and dazed. He lets his mother drape the blanket around him (in itself such a sad, futile attempt to care for her traumatized child). He lets her hug him without moving or speaking. But then, as she weeps and caresses him and pours out her love to him, his head drops forward onto her shoulder. And it's clear, when she pulls back for a moment and wipes his tears with the blanket she's swaddled him in, that he's been crying. Still he does not speak. Still he does not put his arms around her. Still he sits mute and still, silent tears streaking down his face. How can this little boy ever trust again that he won't be snatched away from his mother and dumped in a cage, maybe, this time, forever? The damage done to thousands of children is permanent. I posted an article on this above somewhere -- experts say that at this age, a trauma like this rewires their brain. And please don't forget -- many of these children may never be reunited with their parents as this boy was. With regard to those who've been dispersed--that's most of them -- there is no plan for bringing them back together, and the administration has acknowledged there might not be. And Trump may reinstate this policy and orphan more children, courtesy of the U.S. government. Hello, Trump voters? You're the only ones Trump cares about. You're the only ones he might listen to. He wants me to be unhappy and screaming because the alt-right base loves liberal tears--look at the internet and you will see that Trump's hardest core base thinks this policy is Teh Awesome and doesn't want Trump backing off from it. Trump knows that--which is why he's doing his best to throw a wrench into any Congressional attempts to fix things, even Republican attempts. If you care, please -- call him, write him, join a protest, do something. Jesus, I know some of you (maybe most of you) think I'm a raging termagant and a melodramatic shrew, but for the love of all that is decent, look at this, and remember -- this is the U.S. government doing it.
