They were kids. Telling them their opinions don't matter because they haven't voted wasn't the best approach, in my view. FWIW, "not her best moment" is not the same thing as "horribly awful from her." As I said, it was unfair to her--imo--to stage this kind of moment, to have a bunch of kids accosting her verbally. I see your point but really — kids meeting a senator who has been doing her job for years should have had more respect for Feinstein’s POV and listened to her a little bit. It could have been a good learning opportunity.

I agree with rob. I think it was a pretty tone-deaf moment for her, but it was refreshing in its honesty. Politicians generally tend to avoid pissing off constituents by telling them the bald truth. They obviously caught her on a bad day, from some of the other things she said about being busy, and trying to get them out of there.
ETA: Mea culpa. I unthinkingly used the word bald, by that meaning unadorned; no insult to those who are follically challenged was intended. I'm leaving it in context to illustrate how easily it can happen.

Got an extra $50 to $90 trillion laying around? Just dying to see a 22% increase in your electric bill? Somebody actually got out a calculator and applied it to AOC's fevered imaginings. Read it and weep. There's actual math in there, based on actual reported figures. For perspective, total FedGov expenditures per year are currently around $4 trillion. So this would mean at least doubling or tripling FedGov expenditures for the "10-year plan." All those funds would be "printed," since there's no way to triple the tax base. (Even 100% eating of the rich wouldn't do that) And that means we'd be chasing Venezuela down the hyperinflation trail. Oh, yeah, and we're already $22 trillion in debt with rising interest rates. I'll give her credit for looking twice as far as the Soviets with their five-year plans, though. And she's certainly more creative than they were. AOC as a politician won't cut it. Unless she's a fairy godmother with a magic wand, she's talkin' out her hat. It's pure unicorns and rainbows. A new generation of lyin' liars that lie for a living.

From AOC's twit feed:
Nope, no sign of arrogance there.
You know, this $90 trillion project is going to require massive regimentation of society and the economy under central control of the government. Dictatorial power, in other words. And there's a lot of attempted suppression of dissenting views.
In other words, everything in the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state.
Isn't there a word for that? Isn't it a word the left has been applying to the right?
Is the f-word ok if it's liberals implementing it?

Your above posts are entirely correct, Don.
A few months past, we were all discussing how AOC would do as a new congressperson. I wonder if any of us expected her to become so arrogant and so bossy this quickly. It's really amazing to me. And so many of the older Dems are blissfully signing on to what she is saying it just blows my mind. I think this is being allowed to happen because of a few reasons:
1) a considerable faction of today's Dem party is young and very left-leaning like university students and the like. They are, of course, attracted to a young pretty charismatic woman of color who talks about free stuff.
2) the older Dems including the several hundred who are in office and planning to run for POTUS (and who should know better) are so worried about being popular and bringing in this faction to vote for them in 2020, that they aren't thinking, they are just grabbing on to a piece (or crumbs) of the popularity pie.
3) Democrats don't seem to have much stuff going on at present except damaging Trump. So if they can damage Trump by turning the U.S. into a socialist nightmare, so be it. I don't think that's where AOC is coming from, but I think that's what is allowing other established Dems to happily and ignorantly ride AOC's wave.
I can see AOC's head swelling bigger by the second. Her Twitter feed is insufferable. We've created a monster.
(And before you all say "What about Trump's Twitter feed/arrogance/etc., well, you know.... we CAN discuss other topics, and I CAN have opinions on other topics without it always coming back to the whataboutisms re: Trump and my voting for Trump.)

In 2016, the choice was Trump or Clinton though choice but Trump won
In 2020 the choice will be socialism or Trump. Another tough choice.
Stupid F-ing democrats.

The Trump supporter thinks AOC is a "monster" with an "insufferable" Twitter feed. While the irony isn't lost on me, the fact is there's plenty to critique about AOC. If the best defense isn't 'but Trump..." then it's not much of a defense. The D's have yet to float 1 candidate I would want to vote for. I want someone who is more than, 'Not Trump.' The fungus between my toes isn't Trump. If I thought it had a chance against Trump, I'd run Toe Fungus 2020. The candidate willing to work from the bottom up.

If you two want me off the board, then that's fine. I'm pretty tired of this, so have at it with yourselves if you can't stop doing what seems to me like a pretty immature discourse on here.
I think there should be a word for this, like Godwinning for Nazis, only this is Trump. Maybe call it TCGing a thread. It's utterly ridiculous, but hey, whatever makes you happy.
BTW, that behavior goes against the entire purpose of starting this board. But again, hey, whatever makes you happy.

The Trump supporter thinks AOC is a "monster" with an "insufferable" Twitter feed. I was gonna let it go, but... Also, she thinks he has a big ego. Sure, Vince524 , certainly there are things to criticize about AOC. I've criticized her myself. But those particular criticisms out of a Trump supporter (and one who certainly does not express similar outrage over Trump's infinitely more monstrous, insufferable, and egomaniacal behavior) are beyond absurd. It's rank hypocrisy. You, Opty, Rob, etc. -- I might agree or disagree with what you say about AOC. But you aren't condoning Trump.

For two lawyers to engage in such fallacious arguments on a discussion board brings me to: But yeah, message received loud and clear. I know exactly what you're both doing at this point. It's very junior high school.

What's fun is that your post above is in reaction to my first post, which is a pure statement of fact.

Trump doing anything, or me voting for him, has nothing to do with a discussion on this board about AOC. Why is that such a difficult concept? If you voted for Hillary, does that mean you can't talk about email security on a TCG thread or I would call you out on being a hypocrite? You and Mark sure do like to call me that.
And since Trump is the root of all evil and every bad thing (at least for those with TDS), then I essentially can't discuss anything on here. I get it.

Btw, ce, did you ever take me up on my repeated challenge to read Trump's Twitter feed every day?
