So Time Magazine gave Donald Trump the Person of the Year award. time.com/time-person-of-the-year-2016-donald-trump/?xid=homepageAnd Twitter is already celebrating what they see as purposeful choices by the cover art team. Not only is the pose and chair similar to a picture of Adolf Hitler on the cover of Time Magazine years ago, but people are saying the M in Time gives Trump devil horns. Thoughts? |

The only thing I see in common is that both are sitting. Hitler is facing front, with a hand on each knee, legs somewhat spread. Trump is looking over his shoulder, hands folded over one another on one knee. As for the alleged "devil horns," Time also gave them to Peter Ueberroth, Bill Clinton, and Barack ObamaIf you want to see a Time cover that actually DOES resemble a picture of Hitler, try this one of Obama. ETA: I don't have time to adjust the size of that last photo, so I inserted a link instead. ETA: They gave "devil horns" to Billy Mays, too. And I'm sure there are plenty of others. That was a five minute search. I rate this controversy a "pfft." ETA: Pope Francis... Bono... |

As for the selection of Trump as Person of the Year, I can't stand the guy, but it makes sense and he's probably the person I would have nominated. No question he pretty much dominated the news this year, and it looks like he's going to continue to do so. It's not a good conduct prize.

IF you're going to purposely give a person horns on the cover, the way they did it for Bill Clinton and Obama is much more effective, IMO.  And haha, Vince about horny. |

I'm pretty sure it's not an editorial comment in any of these instances. It's the fact that they have an "M" in their name in a place that is not unlikely to sit on top of a large picture. And really, there is a limit to how many poses one can put a human being without there being a passing resemblance to some other photo somewhere of someone else. Twitter is a silly place. |

Honestly, I don't think so.
First, the people to whom this has allegedly been done are too different from one another (Bill Clinton and the Pope?)
Second, because I honestly never would have seen devil horns on any of them had I just looked at the covers out of context of this discussion -- maybe because I don't believe in the devil (and even if he existed, I don't imagine he'd have horns). There are a lot of pictures like that -- it's possible to use your imagination to see stuff in them, but that doesn't mean it was intentionally put there.
Sometimes an "M" is just an "M."

They've got some nice stuff, Williams-Sonoma. A tad over-priced sometimes, though. Still, good reading.

The supposed opinions expressed in the cover art are a faint shadow of those contained within the article itself. It's probably a good thing Trump and many of his supporters don't bother to read, 'cause it would probably piss them off.
