A Maryland mall was demolished today due to a massive explosion blamed on a gas leak:
This comes barely a month after a mall in Plantation, FL also experienced an explosion blamed on a "possible" gas leak:
I'm no conspiracy theorist, but this isn't the type of thing that happens often (or really at all) and to have two within one month seems...odd. It's pretty difficult to have a gas leak explosion at a mall, unless it happens at one of the in-mall eateries, which neither of these happened at.
Probability theory suggests that it's entirely possible that this is just a coincidence, and for now that's what I'm going with, especially since there haven't been reports of FBI agents on either scene (no reports I've seen, at least) to make me think there's something bigger going on. But...two identical, incredibly low-probability events happening within one month of each other jostles the statistician in me.
Again, not saying there's any connection here other than random chance, but if this happens again this year, I think that'd be cause for a dose of healthy suspicion.
(CNN)A gas explosion in Maryland destroyed part of a building in shopping center on Sunday morning, local fire departments report, in an incident that affected businesses and residents miles away.
No one was reported injured, but the building is at risk of collapsing, said Stephen Hardesty, battalion chief for Howard County Fire and Rescue, at a news conference.

The Plantation Fire Department initially said a gas explosion had occurred, but later said they were still working to confirm the cause.
Plantation Fire Deputy Chief Joel Gordon said there was an active gas leak at the scene when firefighters responded to the report of an explosion at about 11:30 a.m. ET.
"At this point, we have not actually confirmed that it was an explosion due to gas," Gordon said. "We believe that. That's what it appears to be."
