Here's a suggestion. A thread started on The Colline Gate should be an original thread and not copied-and-pasted in part or wholly from another debate/discussion board. IF the topic was introduced or reposted elsewhere, the thread originator should make a note of and not name the specific board(s). Otherwise, all it is something which also is appearing on Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Instagram, post-it notes, yada, yada, yada into infinity and beyond. There's something a bit "off" about going board-to-board and dropping the same topic word-for-word on each board attempting to goose the amount of replies and views on a given subject. It feels like sloppy seconds and it's also lazy. At least make the effort to rewrite it somewhat. The first question asked in response to a thread shouldn't be, "Gee, this sure looks familiar..."

Gotta admit, it feels kinda off to me too... like we're all guinea pigs in a social experiment.

I agree. I think that's a good suggestion. I guess I'll have to work up a rule later. In the meantime, something like this should be followed: If you're going to start the same sort of thread at multiple locations--which is okay, by the way, because the same sorts of threads are at every politics forum--do one of two things: 1) write completely different thread starts with different titles, maybe even with some different sources, or 2) acknowledge that the same post was offered elsewhere, ala "here's something I posted elsewhere and thought it would be a good topic here, as well," then actually put what's at the other board in quotes. Of course, if the first location for the thread start is The Colline Gate, then none of the above applies. And we'll have to be on the honor system there.

I'm on board with this. An "I posted about this elsewhere" is good to know, especially for members who belong to other boards and see the same post.
I don't at all mind the same topics being raised, though. For one thing, not all of us participate on other message boards (I'm on here and twitter, for example, and that's it for my online activity these days). And as Rob notes, the same topics are likely to come up on different boards. The different populations on different boards will likely make the conversation different, as well.

Okay, I've expanded the final rule in Welcome (rule 9) to cover the issue. If anyone thinks I missed something, let me know here.

And you're failing. You've never seen such failure, believe me. Sad.
