As it happens, Christmas and Chanuka coincide this year. I'll be attending a party celebrating both holidays tomorrow!
Whatever you celebrate or don't celebrate, I hope you all have a great weekend. I'm glad you're here.

For those of you not on my Facebook feed, I give you my family Christmas letter.
For those who have read this already... oh well, too bad.
Happy Holidays or bah humbug, whatever your preference.
Christmas time has come again Time to write to both family and friend A letter for everyone to peruse To spread all our family news
Our girls have both started college To fill both of their brains with knowledge We hope they’ll stay nice and toasty warm Up in their Rochester dorms
Jessie is up at RIT Where she’s studying hard for her degree She’s making grades that are sure to please And eating microwavable mac and cheese
University of Rochester is where Danny goes And won’t it be fun when it really snows She’s having fun for all to see And still working on a book with me
Much to our sad dismay They both have moved four hours away It’s hard knowing they’re so far from home But at least they haven’t left Becky & I alone
No we haven’t got an empty nest We’ve got new kids, and they are the best As our family learned to turn the page We started to write the name Sage
The siblings came to us about mid-May And we don’t ever want them to go away They’ve filled our lives with so much fun And now they get to be included in my pun
We’ve got Hannah, Yotham and Elly too And I can’t wait to introduce them to you So let me tell you a bit about them 6th grade, 9th grade, and another college freshmen
Hannah is also away at school But with grades like hers, she’s nobody’s fool She also loves to cook and bake Man you should taste her carrot cake
Elly is the one who draws Her artwork is worthy of applause It’s hard not to be a fan Just follow her on Instagram
Yotham’s the wrestling, football, and track athlete So naturally his room smells like sweaty feet It’s strange to have a kid who’s a dude But man does Yotham love his food
Of course we have to mention the three dogs Who chase after food like a trio of hogs They fight, they bark, they lay around And they eat all the crumbs we drop on the ground
Becky is still teaching at school And when she’s home, you know she rules She’s doing well for all to see But pity her, for she’s stuck with me
I of course took the time To reason out this little rhyme I still spend my time, writing books But I’m kept around because I cook
And now the time has finally come To say that this rhyme is finally done But to all of you, have no fear We’ll be back again next year
So hang your stockings with care For Santa Clause will soon be there And just to end this poem right A Merry Christmas to all, and to all goodnight!

Ugh, my husband and I both have horrible colds. I'm so bummed for my kids, because neither of us will be able to be with them over at my parents' Christmas Eve dinner tonight or go to mass, which will be really weird. Hopefully we will feel better enough tomorrow to celebrate with extended family, because that's what my Italian family does on Christmas (husband's are scattered all over the country). In the meantime, I will be sneezing and quietly blowing my nose, and my husband will be making horn sounds and perpetually clearing his throat (it's a thing I'm surprised I've been able to live with for 25 years - getting close to the end of my rope though with this cold).
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you here! I love this group and hope it continues to grow.

We've got a full house tonight, and a fuller house tomorrow when the MIL arrives. Spending the day doing lots of cooking. In fact, I've got to get back to it.
Tonight is meatballs, shrimp parm and pasta. Tomorrow is lasagna and a ham. (So the non pork eater has something.)

Tomorrow, I'm making turkey, ham, cornbread, roasted garlic and parmesan potatoes, corn on the cob, steamed broccoli, and pumpkin pie. Just wish I wasn't eating alone...*
* Not really. Kids, parents, ex-wife will all be in attendance.

It's pretty awesome to see you guys doing so much delicious cooking. I will be cooking for just my family tomorrow night. We have brunch at my parents' home and exchange gifts. I Have a glazed spiral ham planned, with herb scalloped potatoes, layered kale salad for vegan husband, green beans, rosemary biscuits, and Brie stuffed mushrooms for appetizer. And that's about all I can handle feeling the way I do right now.
*sneezes*

The big deal here this year is the deserts. Over the next few days there is pecan pie, carrot cake, coconut creme pie, peanut butter fudge, and chocolate cake.
Most of it is being made by Hannah, who is an amazing baker. We're thinking about forcing her to drop out of college so she can stay here and make cakes and pies for us, but that won't be good for her future and instead of losing weight, my wife and I will double in size.
So we're on the fence about it.

Gotta do something, fast, to get rid of the jinx! Dawg bless us, every one. Even you, Vowels. Pfft. Not Vowels. *phew*

I made Christmas jello shots. I have never done this. We don't know how to get them out of the little cups. They're stuck. They are pretty though. Luckily there is leftover vodka. Happy Holidays everyone!

I'll be going to Teh Hackspace tomorrow, and it'll only be the second time this year (the first was Thanksgiving Day) that all the Interestates are moving at their speed limits. It's amazing how in Atlanta we have two north-south Interstates (I-75 and I-85) that share one big-ass (ISTR up to 10 lanes wide!) road for 8 miles going through the Heart of Atlanta, and then in the middle of that they pass under The Big East-West Road (I-20). Everyone's on them at once, seven days a week I'm amazed anyone gets anywhere.
Woops, that was a rant. (so how's traffic in your town?)
In response to Robaieaieaie's post (and a repeat from my FB feed), here's Greg Lake telling the story of his song. This about the only think I know of that is both cynical and magical:
