So, I'm really not much of an impulse shopper and I'm certainly not one of those HSN shopping types, but recently I did fall prey to both. After watching Ming Tsai's cooking demo at the SoBe Food and Wine festival last weekend (I also got to have brunch with Neil Patrick Harris), I was intrigued. He was pimping a new episode on HSN with a new product, so I checked it out. It was this air fryer thingy. So I bought it (it was actually $89.95 for the first day). I got it Thursday and decided to use it to make dinner on Friday. With it, I made corn on the cob, broccoli, and basic chicken. All told, it took forty minutes to cook everything. The kids LOVED it. The chicken was perfect and the corn on the cob tasted like it had been roasted on a grill. The broccoli was good, but I overcooked it a tad (now I know). Easy prep, easy clean-up. So how about you? Got any good new products to recommend? Any ones to avoid that you regret buying? Post 'em here.

If anybody's a fan of ceramic knives (we are) check out the three available at Harbor Freight. They're nicely made, retain their sharpness well (for over a year at least) and a tiny fraction of the cost of nearly-identical knives elsewhere. At $7 for a paring knife, or $13 for a 6" chef's knife, they're a bargain.
HF is also a good place for other relatively cheap and simple tools. It's not where I go for quality, long-term-use tools, but if I need a tool for specific project and I'm not looking to buy top-quality for long-term use, I'll usually start there. I've bought a few tools there for specific purposes that have been workhorses and are still chugging away, and others that just didn't cut the mustard. A cheap oscillating saw and pop-riveter are still going strong after years. A good place for bargains if you're buyer-aware.
