Angela Merkel is a rather dull and serious politician that don't do much exciting stuff. For her it's it's important that everything is stable and ordered and without surprises. She doesn't really excel in crises, and her instincts are always to find an equilibrium. That's not a bad trait for a leader in troubled times, particularly if the leader is guided by some principle rather than expediency. Merkel does have principles. She contrasts well with the antics of politics elsewhere.
So, I'm glad she's made someone happy.
