I gave you a karma point. Really, I should give new members a machete and a shield, but karma points are cheaper.

Jeesh, this place is a freaking lovefest right now. Damn it, you're supposed to snarl at each other. YOU VOTED FOR DIFFERENT PEOPLE, FFS! Let's see some good ol' American HATE! But I'm European. We do love, not war. Although we're pretty good at that war bit too. Long, looooong practise. Oh, hi people.

OMG, one of those European spy types! Hide the nuclear briefcase! Throw him in Gitmo!
Um, I mean...
Welcome, Maxinquaye! I'm delighted to see you here. We now mix in some war with our love, but hey, one needs variety, right?

I'm Swedish too. Half-way to ISIS, if your president is to be believed. I actually live in a bunker, and don't dare to go outside for all the mooslems out there.

Rob? We need to build a wall around this Maxinquaye guy before he starts contaminating all the 'Muricans with his Mooslim Swedish thinking.

Welcome, Max. Nice to see you. How about a thread about the reality on the ground there? Inquiring minds want to know.

Welcome, Max. Nice to see you. How about a thread about the reality on the ground there? Inquiring minds want to know. Well I did just copy and paste a post from my blog into the International politics section, so that I can be said to contribute something here.

I have no doubt at all you will carry your weight here, Max. I have to mention again how pleased I am at the people who've joined so far. We're small, yes, and I'd love to see more voices of every persuasion here, but we do seem to have collected some interesting and substantive voices, and even when I'm irritated as fuck by some of those voices, I'm glad to have them here. I like it interesting, and interesting tends to mean contentious sometimes. By the way, Max and Michael -- Rob and I, as you know, duke it out pretty vigorously in threads. We are also mods. If we are arguing with you, it is as a member, not as a mod, unless we specifically say otherwise. In other words, we are NOT saying "shut up" when we argue with you. So argue away. As a rule, we really only get moddy when it gets too personal between members.

No, I'm generally saying "shut up," when I argue, though it has nothing to do with modding.

Stomping on haggis is always appropriate.

Haggis is all right. With neeps and tatties, and a good beer.

I actually like haggis. Both the dish and the short, furry, yappy one. What can I say? I have strange tastes.

I have been conditioned for it. There is a similar Swedish dish called Pölsa. Well, it lacks the sheep stomach and it's wetter. That's the sort of stuff I grew up on before I acquired more refined tastes. My mother was into that 'wholesome, natural food of the people' stuff.
