and this tweet is still up.
As you can imagine, hordes of people are mocking it. Yeah, including me.
But you know, I'm starting to wonder if something really yuuuuuge interrupted him mid-tweet. I mean, yeah, his tweets are insane, but he doesn't usually cut them off mid-sentence with an egregious typo.
So. What do YOU think happened?

It's been up more than an hour now. It has nearly 45,000 likes (including mine, because what's not to like?). And Twitter has gone mad with the #covfefe hashtag.
eta:
an hour and a half AND IT IS STILL UP! 61,000 likes. Twitter is a swarm of #covfefe jokes and memes, pretty much to the exclusion of anything else! By this point, I would think someone in the White House would have seen it, told him, and had him press delete.
I totally need to go to bed but I'm so damn curious. WTF? Are they giving him CPR? Was there a terrorist attack? Is his attention span really THAT short? WTF happened? What? What?

it's spawning new characters and Twitter handles: mobile.twitter.com/CovfefeSmobile.twitter.com/CovfefeWIt's fascinating to watch it explode across the internet. Did he just get indicted? Did a sniper get into the White House? Did Melania ask for a divorce? Did he drop his phone in the toilet? ETA: Two hours. It's still up, and no tweets since. 74,000 likes, 60,000 retweets, 25,000 replies. and about eleventy million jokes. I must go to bed. Wake me up if an explanation surfaces.

A lot of them are really hilarious. That particular guy put up a bunch of good ones. A couple of favorites:
Tomorrow, I will no doubt regret staying up half the night reading them.

Still up.
Is this his "Checkers" speech?

Phone wrenched out of his hands mid-tweet by a completely over-it Mattis.
I think Melania was caught trying to get out an SOS. "Covfefe" is a Slovenian word essentially meaning "uncontested annulment".

Clearly this could've gone in the Minions' Entertainment thread.

It's gone now, but this is up:
Some of the responses to the first were hilarious. Many of the responses to this one are, as well.
But man, there are still a lot of douchebags on the internet. I thought that was getting cleaned up...

Well. That was....
...actually worth missing the sleep. I'm serious. Just amazing.
WTF. WHAT HAPPENED? This is the guy with the nuclear codes?!

I think it's all funny as hell.
But come on, don't oversell it. He probably composed a tweet, accidentally backspaced it, then hit "tweet" and didn't check it after it was sent, until this morning. He could have done it in bed, just be for he went to sleep. It's not all that difficult a thing to explain.

Well, if it were just the tweet... and if it were one of us sitting all alone in a ranch house somewhere...
But it went all over the internet in the first half hour. (Which was at 12:30-- not so late.) In two hours it was in the New York Times. Surely someone at the White House saw it.
I find it rather bizarre it stayed up so long. I mean, it's hilarious, but it's an embarrassment.
This is the PRESIDENT.

I assume Trump's tweets--which I think he should stop, altogether, because they make him look foolish--are 100% controlled by Trump.
And once it was up, it was over, regardless. Everyone took screen shots of it so taking it down wouldn't have done jack, imo. It would have just added another line to the stories: "The tweet was subsequently deleted around 2:00 am, no doubt by an embarrassed Trump or one of his staffers. There's something to be said--PR-wise--for not looking scared here. So Trump deleted it at some point, but tossed up a tweet that referenced it. That's pretty much the best he could do, no?
Again, funny, funny stuff. But easily chalked up to a simple error with no actual damaging consequences.
