He was definitely something.
Btw, I don't think what Trump did was fine, at all. I just don't see anything impeachable so far. I agree he's been inappropriate, brash, ignorant, but not criminal. I don't think his intent was to obstruct, i.e., to corruptly impede, as far as I understand the definition. But I'd be happy to be wrong.

I was highly amused by Kasowitz's comments.
He seems to think Trump is "vindicated" by the stuff Comey said that helps Trump (like that Trump isn't being investigated), but that ALSO, AT THE SAME TIME, Comey is a lying liar, but mainly for the stuff that looks bad, and really, who are you going to believe, a lying liar like Comey or the president?
God, what a shit show.

God, what a shit show. A shit show, indeed. Part of what made Comey credible, IMO, was that he also didn't hesitate to criticize e.g., Loretta Lynch, the Clinton campaign, and a New York Times story. It's hard to paint the guy as a mere biased partisan. But a lot of people walk out of this looking bad. (Two who don't, btw, are Burr and Warren, who did a nice job questioning, I thought.) I agree we aren't going to see Trump impeached based on this...yet (though we might were there more democrats in Congress). But there are clearly shoes to drop.

There's also no way he can know for certain he wasn't being recorded. We're supposed to believe he just risked perjury charges, just to mix in a few lies along w/ the stuff that "vindicated" Trump's side of the story?

And even taking that aside, to the extent it's he said-he said between him and Trump, one of them is under oath, while the other isn't -- one has a reputation for credibility, while the other... Lordy, I hope there are tapes!

That is kind of what I was getting at. I know a few Trump voters, and every time someone points out Trump's latest ethical lapse, they'll say "What about Clinton...?"
Okay, so the vast majority of the things the Clintons were accused of never amounted to any criminal wrongdoing... just a lot of stuff that was shady and sure looked sleazy and inappropriate. But that's enough to lambast them with everything from conspiracy theories to demands for impeachment.
But when Trump is shady, sleazy, and inappropriate, well, he didn't break the law, so all the Trump-haters are being hysterical and overreacting? Cool story, bro.

My takeaways from the hearing:
1) I don't think anymore of Comey than I did before. The fact that he leaked shit through a third party to influence the public narrative on all of this is pretty bad, imo. It's downright sleazy. He can't possibly think that stratagem is the way top level people at the FBI--or anywhere else--should behave, can he? Regardless, the fish stinks from the head. If Trump is the Leaker-In-Chief, we now know that Comey is the Director of the Federal Bureau of Leaks. Goose, gander, and all that. Plus, Comey was there longer...
2) Trump stills comes of worse, though. But I think I had it right above: slimy businessman. That's how it all looks to me, Trump telling others to step outside so he can have a word with Comey in private. That's not Presidential. It's far more Atlantic City, especially if Trump had an envelope filled with hundreds in his coat pocket.
3) The hearing didn't live up to the hype. There's no way around it. Sure, Comey called Trump a liar. Join the club. But the details CNN, ABC, and the like claimed to know ahead of time were wrong, i.e. that Comey would dispute Trump's claim that Comey told him he wasn't the target of an investigation. Of course, the news sites got that info from unnamed sources.
4) I was disappointed that Comey trashed a NYT story for getting almost everything wrong, but then failed to specify what it got right or what it got wrong. If he couldn't because it was classified, then he shouldn't have said jack shit. Really, Comey is not good at this testifying stuff.
5) McCain is losing his mind.

What a waste it is to lose one’s mind. Or not to have a mind is being very wasteful. How true that is.

Illegitimacy is something we should talk about in terms of not having it.
