So, I think we all remember the Philando Castile shooting (or at least I hope so). The officer who shot Castile was recently acquitted. The reaction on the right seemed somewhat mixed, perhaps more mixed than it should've been. Here's David French, for example, writing at National Review: www.nationalreview.com/corner/448740/philando-castile-verdict-was-miscarriage-justiceFrench is pretty clearly on the side of Castile here, arguing that Castile was a victim of incompetent policing and a man who was merely exercising his second amendment rights in a lawful manner. But Jacob Sullum, writing for Reason, points out that there's a voice for second amendment rights that's been conspicuously absent in this case: reason.com/archives/2017/06/21/the-nra-shuns-a-second-amendment-martyrThat voice being the NRA. Sullum doesn't address the question of why the NRA has been silent, but it's worth asking, I think. This should seem like a no-brainer for them, given that they're supposed to be an advocate for the right to concealed carry. What's the deal here?

This is one of the primary reasons the NRA isn't a lot larger, and why competing organizations have been steadily gaining market share. Their white, male myopia is widely known.

I think it's a bit of an ideological conundrum for them. They're big supporters of cops (they even award a "Law Enforcement Officer of the Year" each year) but also big supporters of unrestrained 2nd Amendment rights.
But...I think the biggest reason is that NRA leadership sees white males with guns as "freedom luvin' 'Muricans standing up to tyranny" and black/brown people with guns as "criminal gangbanger thugs on the way to a drug deal."
So, I suspect that they're staying out of it because they don't want to offend police unions or reveal their own racist tendencies.

Yeah, I guess I stated that backwards. You're right, their silence is making it pretty clear.
