In this particular case, the electoral college is the "democratic process" I was referencing. The majority vote is meaningless in US presidential elections, of course.

Yep... but since one of the original purposes of having an electoral college to begin with was to override a bad choice by the voters...
That said, these days, in practice, it's become a mere formality and a given that by and large electors will go along with the votes. Still, if that were ALL it was about? Couldn't we just have, say, a number of automatic points assigned for each state, rather than real live electors voting?

I don't think Trump is a good choice to be President. But he's hardly an extremist ideologue and the kind of candidate that the Electoral College is there to prevent. "Bad President" =/= "another Hitler/Stalin/etc. People really need to get over the hyperbolic nonsense, imo.

I admit to having fantasies where somehow, someway, we don't end up with Trump as president. But I am not advocating extreme measures to prevent it -- merely noting that some methods would be possible and not unconstitutional. Whether it's a good idea to take those measures is as another question entirely.

I basically agree with Rob as well, with the caveat that although "bad president" doesn't mean another Hitler/Stalin, it can still mean a really, really bad president, in ways we have not heretofore experienced. Unpredictability, narcissism, and a lack of self-control, maturity, and dignity all appear disastrous and are causes for grave concern to rational people.

I believe there won't be any change come the 19th. I also believe the recount is a waste of time and money.
I also give the republicans 6 months before they screw something up big time.
If the democrats have been paying attention I think they stand a good chance of taking back congress in two years.

I desperately want Rolling Thunder to be right.
(Well, not the screwing up big time part, depending on the fallout. Unfortunately, that bit seems inevitably right.)
