Mugabe is under house arrest, the military is in control of the government (and most of Zimbabwe's media), but it's not a coup: More here: www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-41994183It's tough, I think, to really assess this from the outside, because it could very much be as the military leaders are saying: a bunch of people around Mugabe are taking advantage of their positions and are going to screw over the country in the transition that was on the horizon. It could also be that a bunch of military leaders saw an opportunity and took it.

Reportedly, military leaders are demanding 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 Zimbabwean dollars in exchange for Mugabe's release.
Too soon?

But on a more serious note, I actually plan to follow this closely. Mugabe should've probably been out of power years ago, given the myriad problems Zimbabwe has faced and the corruption he's presided over. I hope things will get better, if there's indeed a new government there.

Yeah, I think Zimbabwe has been off the radar for a while now--in Western media--despite all of the problems it has had and continues to have. Perhaps because there's no Islamic extremism there?

Perhaps because there's no Islamic extremism there? Maybe, although I immediately thought of Venezuela. A country that's much more on the radar, despite also sharing some of the same traits: corruption, inflation, one party controlling the politics for a long time, etc, plus also lacking the Islamic angle.
