So a long time ago I used to use Photobucket for occasionally linking my own personal pics to internet forums. I haven't been on there in quite a while. Today, I went there because I wanted to post a couple of my dog's pics on the Noel thread here, showing her quirky side. OMG, the site seems entirely unusable due to so many pop up ads. And across the top of the website it declares, "Want to share your pics with other websites? Join our premium service for only $399 per year! That's barely over $1 per day!" (I quoted as closely as I could from memory because there are so many pop-ups now I can't see that anymore.) So...what the heck happened to Photobucket? And...any tips from you all here on how I can post my pics on TCG? Ah, the Denver Post explains, since Photo**cket is based in Denver: www.denverpost.com/2017/07/06/photobucket-complaints-over-charging/So how do you all post photos here on TCG? I'm pretty clueless about this.

I'm pretty sure photobucket is demon-possessed. The last time I tried to use it, the popups were almost insurmountable, and then, a few hours after posting a pic, there was an error message in place of the pic.
I just signed up (free) for imgur and it seems okay.

Thanks, Christine! I hadn't heard of imgur before. Will check it out.

Not only is the site unusable these days, linked pics from Photobucket have some sort of time limit to the hot-linking. I would guess that the cost of maintaining the site's services proved to be too much to make it completely free, but rather than opting to make it a pay-for-services site, the owners went for the combo: pay or deal with an insurmountable number of pop-up ads. More here: www.theverge.com/2017/7/4/15919224/photobucket-broken-images-amazon-ebay-etsy-paid-updateIt was a crap move imo and I hope the company goes bust.

I had to shutdown my blog while I was on probation on my new job. Didn't need the headache of someone wondering what was up with the content. I had been using Photobucket for years as my go-to option for pics to post on my blog.
Imagine my surprise to find out I have eight years of broken photo links on my blog and now I have to go find an alternative to Photobucket because there is no way I can rationalize going from free to a paid membership to avoid ads, to $400 a year to have access to my own photos.
Nah. Eff that.
This is what Evil looks like, folks.
What I'm really hacked off over are the EIGHT YEARS WORTH OF BROKEN IMAGES AND LINKS DUE TO PHOTOBUCKET'S GREED!
And yes, I am yelling! Like I really want to go through all those posts and not only get rid of the broken images, but find a replacement photo for something I wrote in June 2013?
Eff that twice as hard.
There are alternatives to Photobucket. Are they better than Photobucket? Maybe so and maybe no, but maybe Photobucket messed this up, ticked off their customers and are actually just a bunch of greedheads?
I think we know the answer.
