Yeah, I can't muster any sympathy for Comey. But I can't decide whether the timing of this move is mostly tone-deaf, brazen, or desperate. "Brazen" is leading in the polls so far.
I wish I could say it smacked of desperation or hubris. But I have this sick feeling that, as with everything before, this is all going to amount to nothing, because the ruling party is more than happy to be complicit in this horrific chapter in our nation's history.
At least Nixon managed, what, five or six years before he brought down the investigators on himself. Trump wasn't even in office before he was settling lawsuits. I agree with you, Cass - if the Russia deal is all fake news, then the Administration should be eager to get an independent investigation and clear the air once and for all. But that won't happen.
Sorry to say that my money is on Trump seeing out at least four years.

Proof that Obama is a secret Muslim! He was drinking non-alcoholic beer. Well, not actually. But people were speculating about it. What that article leaves out though is the speculation over whether the sausages were real. They could've been soy meat, right? Really, when you add up all the evidence, it's pretty overwhelming, I think. Drink non-alcoholic beer and you're a secret Muslim born in Kenya. Drink real beer and you're a broken-down alcoholic who sleeps all day. You just can't win. Good lord. I gave up booze in 1985, and only now do I know why I get all these notices from a mosque in Nairobi. Thank you, Michael and Cass, for helping me find my way to my real home! (As for all the rest of the thread content, I can't really add anything more than a Jesus-wept facepalm.)

(Traveller's Tip: There's also a People Magazine here, but it's apparently NSFW-type photos. The equivalent to the US version is called Who.) Could I get the subscription information on that? I'll check. But you can always borrow it from the library...

+1 Question from overseas: Does anyone read TIME anymore? Would they make their own list? Define "anyone." Whenever I visit my dentist or doctor's office, there's a current issue of TIME, People or Sports Illustrated available for me to read. Everyone else is too busy looking down at their phones to bother reading a magazine. Ah, okay - I remember TIME being everywhere once upon a time, but I left the US twenty-some years ago. I think there's a version of it here, but it's not as prevalent. (Traveller's Tip: There's also a People Magazine here, but it's apparently NSFW-type photos. The equivalent to the US version is called Who.)

Don, that's all wonderful news. I hope you all have marvelous times - and remember, being svelte doesn't mean you can't throw your weight around.

Naturally, I'm doubly thrilled over the inclusion of Colin Kaepernick. (a) Because he belongs there. (b) It pisses off the Kap Haters. +1 Question from overseas: Does anyone read TIME anymore? Would they make their own list?

It's almost a relief to see that his latest "whoopsy" appears not to be life-threatening. That's something.

I take a similar approach - any or all of these, or just to let the poster know that someone read the post and found it worth acknowledging. If I don't have anything to contribute in a post, I think the Like is a nice option to acknowledge without taking up real estate on the thread.
Do I often wonder what a person meant by a Like? Usually. Do I want to know? Not necessarily. I like wondering.

What does it mean when you "like" someone's post?
How do you interpret a "like" when you get one? (Does it depend on who gave it?)
Does the ambiguity inherent in a "like" make it the most passive-aggressive feature of a BBS?
And... what about Naomi?

I have a compilation LP with Shooting star on it. Haven't ever seen them anywhere since... and I bought that in about 1981!

Since Obama proposed the same thing, but actually went to Congress with it first, he would've gotten the same kudos, I suppose.
I do wonder how, if Trump was so moved by images of "beautiful babies" suffering and dying, where his compassion was when he signed the EO's to keep them out of America. Or will he have a change of heart now?
I won't hold my breath. Unless I smell sarin.
