PM sent - we'll see if she ever sees the message, or if it ends in the facebook "message requests" dead-letter office.

Maybe the most disturbing thing for me about the whole Trump Presidency thing is how all those Republicans who ridiculed and excoriated Trump so fiercely during the Primaries are now falling in line - and how quickly.
Similarly, how this man - and all his odious, mendacious behaviour - has somehow become the champion of so many who identify as Christians.
Nothing anyone says means jack, does it?

Wrong. Madonna is aging before our eyes, but she's not as stomped, whupped up and beat as Kellyanne Conway. Conway only looks good when Kate McKinnon is playing her. We all age; I'd rather be aging than not. I'd say it's more a testament to her longevity that she's still here and not a "where are they now?" trivia question. Looking good is certainly part of her career description, and after that many years and miles, she's done well IMO. I'm not necessarily a Madonna fan, but credit where it's due. As for Kellyanne, see below: No sympathy for her as an evil minion and spinner of lies. How she looks isn't relevant. If we had a White House full of people who looked like Trump, Conway, and Bannon - but were doing great things - nobody would care. Talking about appearances is a digression. Nowhere near as creepy or vain. So, that's a 3? As far as it being "cruel" to rag on Kellyanne's look, I got no shits to give. It's a sexist world and women get ragged on for superficial reasons. I'll be fair. Let's all laugh at how lumpy and dumpy Donald Trump is compared to President Slim. Yup: Anyhow. I don't shed any tears for Kellyanne Conway, and it's some small comfort to know that the Left are equal-opportunity mockers of appearance - seeing as how Trump and Bannon get it regularly too. OTOH, I think the message is stronger when it's focused on what they do, rather than what sort of taste or look they have. (Then again, it's telling that the Clintonistas embraced the pantsuit thing, rather than kvetching about the shots she took.)

That's a great pic, and I'm not just saying it because you're an omnipotent mod or a deft poet or any of that.. I like the whimsy, and it's cool to know that you've been in Sydney.
The museum is fun and interesting - sadly under-funded, IIRC. And for years, artifacts in storage went missing. I suppose that can happen with museums.

It's something I can't imagine for myself -- "honey, I got undressed in front of a stranger, just for you" -- but I can sure understand that other people would absolutely love it.
And where, then, does this photo rank on a scale of 1 to Ben Carson and Jesus?

That was my initial reaction, from the other side of the globe: They built up expectations... for THAT?
Have these media people learned nothing in the past eight months? FFS.
If this is how the "resistance" is going to play out, then get ready for eight years of Trump.

I don't really get any enjoyment from poking fun at people's personal foibles, no matter how odious their actions are. That said, I don't imagine putting up glamour shots of myself in my home, but I do seem to be vain enough to take a relatively good photo of me and turn it into an avatar. So I've got no high ground either.
Still, if you squint, the photo could be Madonna as Norma Desmond... right?

Another fun fact: "on the nose" has a different meaning in Australia -- it means inappropriate, unpleasant... something that has a weird (metaphorical) smell. Often used to refer to someone's behaviour.
I think I'll drop a line on Facebook or summat, and see what she says.

In other news, the engineers found the panels held up to wear much better if they were installed upside-down.
Next project on the list: underwater wind farms.

A propos not much at all, an anecdote:
One summer, when I was somewhere around twelve to fifteen, I went to a tennis camp. (A propos even less, the venue was Bowling Green State University, in Ohio - home of Dave Wottle, Scott Hamilton, Phil Villapiano, and no massacres.)
Anywho. The camp involved both singles and doubles play; at the start of the week, we were paired up for the doubles competition. My partner was a girl with an unusual name, one I hadn't heard since - up until last year. Her name was Sherri Tenpenny. We went 10-6 in our matches, I think - respectable, but not winning.
I have no idea if she's the same one or not, but how many are there?

I'm reminded of a time last year when the Australian Treasurer, Joe Hockey, was addressing the issue of housing prices (and rents) shooting out of reach for new buyers/renters. His response: "They should get better jobs."

I don't think that "like and share" would have the same effect. Women try to raise awareness for issues they care about on social media: They're slacktivists who never do anything productive. My comment had nothing to do with women. It was about the suggestion that demonstrations shouldn't inconvenience anyone.

I dunno. If I had to accept 68% (or whatever) of my current salary, watch as my own health-care decisions were taken out of my hands by others in government, for ostensibly religious (and not government) reasons, and see that my new leader considered it normal 'locker room talk' to cop a feel, or that he's entitled to walk into my changing room because he runs the show I'm in, 'self-indulgent' is not how I'd classify a demonstration like this.
I would imagine the people involved understand a day without pay, and the odds of being fired for it. Argue that it's directed against the wrong target, okay. No comment there, either way. But the point of a demonstration is to get people to notice. To suggest that they should take care not to inconvenience people seems to miss the point.
Then again, I'm one of the most privileged creatures on the planet, so what would I know.
