Apparently Russia is restricting Twitter and Facebook, CNN is pulling out, WWE is pulling out, and now there's a campaign to get Coca Cola to pull out, as well. At this rate, Russia's going to be the healthiest, most well-adjusted country in the world.

This should totally become a series.
Kamala Harris explains general relativity.
Kamala Harris explains quantitative easing.
Kamala Harris explains the rules of cricket.
And so on and so forth...

Have you guys seen the TV show Servant of the People? I watched the first two episodes on YouTube yesterday. It was actually pretty funny. Zelenskyy wrote and starred in this TV series, where he plays a history teacher who ends up being elected president of Ukraine. Of course, Zelenskyy later ended up being elected president in real life. (Also, in the TV series, he wins the election w/ 67 percent of the vote, which is not too far off from what actually happened in the 2019 election.) Check it out, if you have time.

There are reports out there that some Russian troops are surrendering to Ukraine forces. Don't know if that's really true, but regardless there are still Russian troops like these guys: Jeez, that was painful to watch. Makes Optimus's analogy about watching someone get murdered seem pretty on point.

It's disappointing and gross how world leaders are just letting this shit happen. Cowards wouldn't admit Ukraine into NATO because they knew invasion was guaranteed and they didn't want to have to get involved. Now, Russia's invading a sovereign country and lauching rockets into cities, and Friedman's Chess Grandmaster Joe Biden responds with...more sanctions. We've been levying sanctions on Russia for years and they've yielded no measurable effect. Did it prevent his moves on Crimea? No. Did sanctions dissuade his war against Ukraine? Not at all. Putin doesn't give a f-ck about Western sanctions. Yet, here we are. I'm not a supporter of military aggression but for a small country to be destroyed and swallowed up by a big evil bully while the rest of the world just sits back and does absolutely nothing other than weak sanctions and tut-tutting Putin in "official statements" is some cowardly, inhuman bullshit. "Sanctions" in response to all out war is the equivalent of watching someone straight up murder a person in front of you while you yell, "Hey! You better stop that right now or I'll dock your allowance, mister!" www.theonion.com/russian-soldiers-guns-tanks-vanish-into-thin-air-as-f-1848595481

Reminds me of a friend of mine who used to work as a teacher in China. He once made a casual reference to the Chinese invasion of Tibet, which made one of his students react in horror. "Oh," the student said. "Do you mean the liberation of Tibet?"

Omicron

Travel bans are, for the most part, absolutely pointless. I think it's mainly the idea of geography-based bans that seems so irrational to me. The idea of going in the opposite direction, and just banning all travel across the board, as some countries have done, actually doesn't seem all that crazy in comparison. The thing is, the virus doesn't know or care where you're from, so a blanket ban is at least consistent w/ that reality, even if there might be additional downsides. But to say: "people from X are dangerous, but people from Y are OK," just makes no sense to me. I get the feeling Biden just wants to be able to say he did "something" in response, instead of doing nothing. (Without, of course, thinking through whether that something actually has any merit behind it.)

So I'm sure everyone by now has heard about Omicron. I've also seen it labeled as the "South African" variant, as I guess it was identified in South Africa. South Africa, though, seems kind of irked by this... www.bbc.com/news/world-59442129The bolded part is what I think is striking some as unfair. Biden, for example, apparently wants to ban travelers from SA as well as several other nearby countries... edition.cnn.com/2021/11/26/politics/travel-restrictions-south-africa/index.htmlBut it does seem a bit weird, IMO. Seems kind of like they're thinking there's some particular problem w/ South Africa, just because the virus was identified there, and ended up with the name "South African" variant. But to my mind, I don't see why someone from South Africa is any more of a danger than someone coming from anywhere else. The whole idea of travel restrictions that are geography based seems kind of debunked by the very idea of a "global" pandemic, right? Or is there something I'm missing here?

He also complained that there weren't enough "Bubbas and Joe Six-Packs" on the jury. LOL. I read that there was only one African-American on the jury, despite Glynn County being around 25 percent African-American. But yeah, I get what the guy was trying to say here. Sheesh.
