The article: insidetheperimeter.ca/myfavouriteequation-scientists-share-their-fave-formulae/One scientist went with F=MA, another went with the Second Law of Thermodynamics. Most everyone else tried waaaaay too hard to be smart, imo. Interestingly, no one went with the Pythagorean Theorem or the quadratic formula. And no E=MC 2 . That said, I think that I would go with Euler's Identity: eiπ+1=0 It's just wacky... What's your fav?

a2 + b2 = c2, for purely sentimental reasons -- it is the first one I can remember my math teacher father teaching me. (now, how many people do you know who have a sentimental feeling about a math equation?)

I'll go with William James's self-esteem equation:
Self-esteem=success/pretensions.

Apropos of very little besides math, when I was a tiny tot, my dad could send me into a giggle fit with the words "hypotenuse" and "googolplex." I thought he made them up for quite a while.

Seems deeply philosophical, like what I imagine a Buddhist equation might be.

Actually, it seems like the inspiration for the Three Dog Night.
