If you're following the migrant children thread I started below, you'll know that Melania Trump visited one of the children's detention centers today. You'll also know that FLOTUS, a former model with a wardrobe of couture clothes, who married into a wealthy family obsessed with image, who wore a $1,400 flannel shirt for a gardening photo op at the White House, a $10,000 coat sightseeing at the G20 summit, and designer stiletto heels to visit hurricane victims, chose to wear a $39 off-the-rack Zara jacket as she boarded the plane to the center, with the message "I really don't care, do U" emblazoned on the back.
The jacket she wore:
This isn't fake news, I assure you. It's real. I also do not believe she has ever worn the jacket before. It was also a blazing hot day.
Her office said ""It's just a jacket. There's no message. I hope we can talk about her important visit with children today rather than her wardrobe choice."
There have been any number of hot takes on this, from "this was a deliberate dog-whistle to Trump's alt-right base to assure them that this photo op is meaningless and the Trump admin couldn't give less of a crap about migrants" to "Melania is engaging in a silent protest against her husband and his policy because she resents being used for a photo op" to "hey, it's just a jacket, no message intended."
What do YOU think?

I voted really clueless for one reason. I find it infinitely easier to believe she is really out of touch with reality as opposed to having the cunning and cleverness to send a secret code message to the alt-right.
I think it is just a jacket with no intentional message because I believe she is dumb enough to not realize how it looks rather than smart enough to send a secret message.

She wore it to the plane at Andrews, from the car to the stairs (and the same on the way back). She didn't wear it to the detention center. Foolish choice, given the reality of the professional media and social media? Sure. Dog whistle? Please.
'Course Trump--being Trump--is happy to jump in with both feet. And the spread of this story on social media indicates--to me--just how far into lunacy so many people--who were probably once reasonable--have gone.
