"Clowns" is probably not the right term. These dumbasses are far more dangerous than *most* clowns:
*crosses Portland off of places to visit with the kids*

Notice the cops sitting at the end of the block observing the harassment of motorist but not interfering? Yeah, that's disturbing.

Given his response (or lack thereof) to the antifa bullshit that goes on in that city, Portland's mayor seems to pretty much be a pile of hot, worthless garbage.

Poor Portland. I’ve been several times, especially when my older daughter was looking at two colleges there and almost played volleyball at one, so she went to camps and visits with the coach etc. This is 4 years ago. I absolutely loved it. Great restaurants (try Laurelhurst Market - prob my favorite restaurant anywhere) Between Antifa and the homeless problem which is becoming more than terrible, I am going to avoid visiting there. (Unless I have to fly out of PDX which I did a few weeks ago after visiting my daughter in Eugene. PDX is a nice airport)

For the past two years, prosperous Portland has become the epicenter for bloody street brawls between antifa and right-wing groups like Patriot Prayer and the Proud Boys. The fights have cost taxpayers nearly $3 million in overtime police pay. The ones who are less inclined to violence will instead throw bottled urine and feces from diapers. This qualifies as political action in Portland. Why is it around here it's the Antifa who are always denigrated and harangued and hated on, while the Alt-right groups like the Proud Boys and Patriot Prayer seemingly get a pass?

I've heard of Proud Boys a little, but not much. Nothing good. Never heard of Patriot Prayer. I'd actually love if there were a thread on them, or we extended this thread to include them.

I can help with that. Some people have a low opinion of the SPLC (hello, Jefferson Beauregard Sessions!), but if the FBI considers them reliable, they must have some reliability. Their disavowals of bigotry are belied by their actions: rank-and-file Proud Boys and leaders regularly spout white nationalist memes and maintain affiliations with known extremists. They are known for anti-Muslim and misogynistic rhetoric. Proud Boys have appeared alongside other hate groups at extremist gatherings like the "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville. Indeed, former Proud Boys member Jason Kessler helped to organize the event, which brought together Klansmen, antisemites, Southern racists, and militias. Kessler was only “expelled” from the group after the violence and near-universal condemnation of the Charlottesville rally-goers.
Other hardcore members of the so-called "alt-right" have argued that the “western chauvinist” label is just a “PR cuck term” McInnes crafted to gain mainstream acceptance. “Let’s not bullshit,” Brian Brathovd, aka Caeralus Rex, told his co-hosts on the antisemitic The Daily Shoah — one of the most popular alt-right podcasts. If the Proud Boys “were pressed on the issue, I guarantee you that like 90% of them would tell you something along the lines of ‘Hitler was right. Gas the Jews.’”
McInnes himself has ties to the racist right and has contributed to hate sites like VDare.com and American Renaissance, both of which publish the work of white supremacists and so-called “race realists.” He even used Taki’s Magazine — a far-right publication whose contributors include Richard Spencer and Jared Taylor — to announce the founding of the Proud Boys. McInnes plays a duplicitous rhetorical game: rejecting white nationalism and, in particular, the term “alt-right” while espousing some of its central tenets. For example, McInnes has himself said it is fair to call him Islamophobic. In its own words
The Proud Boys go looking for trouble with the Antifa. The Antifa go looking for trouble with the Proud Boys. Only one side gets blamed though and it's not the Proud Boys.

Correction NT, it's antifa who goes looking for and escalating confrontations with PBs and patriot prayer. Antifa are the counter-protesters, who out number the protesters by a large margin. Least ways that's the way it is here in Portland.

We can agree the Antifa go too far at times, but they haven't killed anybody. Can we say the same thing about the Alt-Right? No. No, we cannot.
If you feel bad there are many more people who prefer to be ANTI-fascist than to be PRO-fascist, you're looking at this from the wrong end of the lens.
Is it any coincidence the same people who hated on Occupy: Wall Street then are back to hate on the Antifa now?

The cops aren't supposed to be taking a side between the alt-right and the antifa. They're supposed to keep the sides apart. Apparently, that's not the rule followed by the Portland po-po.
Color me shocked and awed. Only not.

So whats your point NT? We both find the behavior of the Portland cops disturbing. Yay for us, we've found common ground. I will note though, the Portland po po take their marching orders from the mayor of Portland.( Police commissioner )

Somebody should get fired over this.

Couldn't agree more NT. The firing needs to start at the top and work itself down the ladder. Mayor - city commissioners - chief of police. Although I kinda like the chief of police here in Portland, Danielle Outlaw . But if she's got to go, she's got to go.
