So a relative and I came to fisticuffs over the insanity last night because I refused to see the refugees months away as an existential threat to the American Way of Life and commented that I thought it was a naked political ploy.
Later the same relative posted this on Facebook.
I think this explains a lot of the clueless support for Trump. Obviously my relative has been mainlining Faux News, but he's not the only conservative I know who used to be middle of the road and has now descended into full-blown insanity. And every damn one of them is worshiping at the Church of John Wayne, Resurrected.
I've formed a firm opinion of which side is suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Ode to Trump:
President Trump is like the gun fighters of old. Stories, of "men" softly spoken, shared around a popping camp fire under the clear cool of a night sky.
Our hero arrives in town and promptly shows he can not only handle the local loud mouth bullies, the angry mob who would have him lynched but also the 16 toughest guys in town. The town quickly hires our gun fighting hero to "clean up the town"...and 8 years later he's finished. Stores, schools, churches and libraries soon follow, peace settles on the prairie. Then comes "polite society", And like the legends of old, our hero, having done his job and having and no patience for the clatter of do-gooders, turns in his star and rides off into the sunset with the prettiest girl in town...
