Disclaimer (to be read quickly in one breath): Forgive me for the fluff piece but once in a while these are fun to talk about and this really is tongue in cheek but nevertheless I'm interested in your perspectives.
So that gorgeous specimen of a human, Cam Newton (just take a look at this pic
adamjw84.sportsblog.com/posts/12207017/the-real-cam-newton.html ) was benched last night for the team's first offensive play. The second string quarterback immediately threw an interception, leading to a quick score by their opponent. They went on to lose the game.
So why was Newton benched?
He didn't wear a tie on the team flight.
Actually...
He tried to wear a blazer and turtleneck instead, but that wasn't good enough.

So I have a few questions:
-Was that an appropriate disciplinary action by the coach?
-Would you still think it was an appropriate move if the Panthers had lost by a field goal?
-Should Cam have worn a tie without a collared shirt? (If the issue really was the tie, then I gather Newton is more concerned with his style than breaking the rule. Bless him.)
Finally, I just have to repeat one phrase from the article:
I need an emoticon to do that sentence justice.

Newton described in detail late Sunday night the sequence of events that led to him violating head coach Ron Rivera’s team rule that requires all players to wear a tie. The problem, Newton said, was that he failed to pack a collared dress shirt that would accommodate a tie for the team’s extended West Coast road trip
He was offered the chance to borrow a tie, but without a collar, it wouldn’t work. On short notice, he said he couldn’t find a dress shirt that fit his 6-foot-5, 245-pound body.
