I can't believe it took this long. Man, he must have been kicking himself every day for taking this job.

He makes it clear he was fired. The letter reads "at your request, I am submitting my resignation."
But yes, I can't imagine he's been enjoying himself.

Mueller would be toast for sure if the Dems hadn't won the House. Trump may still try a Saturday Night Massacre style thing, but he's not going to be able to make this all go away.
And even if he did, the team who'll looking into him here in NY is not a chummy one.

Well, I think it clear that Sessions has always taken his duties seriously, whether as a Senator, as the Attorney General for Alabama, or as the US Attorney General. I know many people have a problem with him on some issues (I certainly do), but I don't think anyone could argue that he wasn't a serious-minded pol who didn't play around. I'm guessing that he realized early on just how effed up the admin was going to be and stuck around because of a sense of duty, hoping that maybe he could inject some sanity into various moments.

I feel like this is a pretty pivotal moment, almost the first real face-off between Trump and Mueller. Maybe I'm wrong, it happens plenty, but don't you all think this is Trump's first major move in a plan to shut Mueller down?
That's obvious, I guess, but what's interesting is that Mueller must have seen this might happen. Does he know what's coming? Can he finish his job (or has he already?!) if his budget get slammed? And how will the public (and politicians) react if Trump does play his cards in a way that makes it obvious he's trying to shut Mueller down?
So far, it seems to me, Trump has tried to direct attention away from this investigation. No longer, perhaps.... It's going to be a fascinating few days and weeks, I think.

Yes, I think it's Trump's first major move to shut Mueller down. Yes I think Mueller foresaw it and has prepared. (I think that's part of why he let states take some of the investigations -- Trump can't shut down New York's investigation.) I am guessing he has completed a substantial part of his investigations, has indictments ready to roll, and that he's been holding off until the midterms are over. By the way, I predict Kris Kobach, my former law school classmate, gets nominated as the new AG. Lindsay Graham seems to be willing to crawl on his knees for it, but I dunno -- I am thinking Trump will keep him in the Senate. We're in for a major shitfest. I can tell you that if Dems hadn't taken the House, I'd be in hysterics right now. But we've got at least that check, and at least some power. I think Trump is feeling that -- and is reacting. It's desperate, but that doesn't mean he can't make one hell of a mess, and he's still got the Senate. Things are going to get ugly.

Of course.
The president of the United States is a crook and a grifter. He's very, very afraid it's all going to come out and he'll do anything to stop it. It will all out eventually, I'm sure. I just hope the whole country doesn't go down with him. Buckle up.
Say, didn't Lindsay Graham say there'd be hell to pay if Sessions were fired? Does it count if he's just forced to resign?
ETA:
LOL.
What a fucking douchebag coward.

I'm really not all that concerned about Mueller being shut down. I do think Trump's end move is to limit Mueller's investigation to just the original mandate....investigating Russian collusion.

Let us take a look at that mandate, shall we? www.justice.gov/opa/press-release/file/967231/downloadThe president's attempt to obstruct the investigation of Russian collusion arises directly from the investigation. The president's and his campaign's possible financial dealings with Russians since he began seriously considering a run for office could be relevant to the investigation of Russian collusion. The fact that Trump may in fact be subject to Russian manipulation and blackmail is directly relevant to the investigation of Russian collusion. As far as I can see, Mueller has stayed well with his mandate. It's not like he started by investigating into real estate investments and ended up looking into a president getting a blowjob by an intern.

Mueller is going to get limited to dealings strictly related to the 2016 election.
I don't think Trump is particularly concerned about the results of the probe into Russian collusion. I do think he is terrified of Mueller digging deeply into his financials. I wouldn't be surprised for Whitaker to find a way to limit Mueller's scope there.

It absurd to suggest that his financial dealings or any kompromat the Russian have on him aren't relevant.
Whatever happens with Mueller, New York will be delving into Trump's finances. I'd bet a lot that they are crooked as fuck and reveal a deeply compromised president who is a lying liar.
He can't shut that down. I think he'll create a shitfest that will ultimately make things worse for himself. He'll damage the country, too, but he doesn't give a shit about that.
