Aw, thanks a bunch, Faux News. I knew you'd be up Avenatti's ass like a wad of Charmin.

The silver lining is that all this will not hurt his presidential aspirations. Yay

LOL, what a narcissistic douchebag. I don't see him as a threat to Trump, I see him as a Trump clone, albeit younger but with no hair.
ETA: I mean seriously, look at the replies to him. Many are indistinguishable from the MAGA crowd, they're so fanboy-esque. There really is a WWE angle in all of this, the way so many people can be so easily manipulated and convinced that someone is a heel or a face.

Michael Avenatti seems to think being the Anti-Trump is what its gonna take him down in 2020. Maybe so and maybe no, but it's not gonna be Mike doing the taking down. Trump vs. Avenatti would be like Hitler vs. Satan. Nobody wins and everybody loses.

I'm a little annoyed at some of the social media posts on this which seem to be taking glee out of the situation. If true, it means a woman was hurt. This is nothing to take glee in.

He just oozes Trump, doesn't he? Very much so. These two dudes are different sides of the same tarnished coin. Which explains why Trump and Avenatti get along as well as a rabid dog and a feral cat. The difference though is Trump has all the layers of protection of the presidency around him. Avenatti feeds on the glare of the spotlight as much as a vampire feeds on blood and t here's not as much protection afforded to momentary celebrity. I've enjoyed the bloodsport of Avenatti needling Trump and Trump responding as he always does when someone offends him. Trump needs a good foil and Avenatti seemed eager to step into that role, but what he forgot was while he poking the bear he was being lured deeper and deeper into a dark cave he didn't know his way around nearly as well as the bear. Mistake.

The charges in the Avenati case are some wild shit. www.documentcloud.org/documents/5780377-U-S-v-Michael-Avenatti-Complaint.htmlBy the way, I had to block him on Twitter a couple of weeks ago. He went after me when I chimed in on Popehat's war with him (which is worth finding on Twitter, if you haven't seen it. Popehat is hilarious and a much better lawyer than Avenatti.) It just wasn't worth it. Avenatti be crazy. Also, apparently, crooked.

This article better details the non-Nike stuff: losangeles.cbslocal.com/2019/03/25/michael-avenatti-arrested-fraud-charges/Now that I see those details, this part is maybe worse than the Nike stuff. And I have to assume the prosecutors have hard evidence here, given the released details. I don't see a way out for him and in and of itself, these charges should lead to disbarment, no matter what.

Thanks for posting that, Cass, I had a read through. My initial thoughts when I heard about this yesterday was that this would be a hard case to prove. I mean, on its face it sounds a lot like the tough-talk a civil lawyer might dish out to settle a legit case. If Avenatti had a client with an articulable legal claim, it's not extortion to tell Nike he's going to scalp them in court, or in public.
But looking into the weeds, it looks like the extortion lies in Avenatti wanting to be hired to do an internal investigation, which wouldn't make any sense. And that's what he wanted the big bucks for (more than $20 million), while his client (if he/she exists) was going to get a pittance ($1.5 million) compared to what Avenatti was asking for himself. That appears to be the nub of this case. Fascinated to see how it proceeds...

I'll certainly be following this, with plenty of popcorn at the ready.
