Republican lawmakers generally sicken me and there's so much lack of concern for the will of the voters, moral bankruptcy, and corporate donor fellatio going on that I get pretty jaded, as things that come from that side of the aisle these days are wholly unsurprising to me. I think I'm pretty much caught up on the egregious, power-grabbing BS that the Republican-controlled state Congress is pulling in WI. Rather similar to what was done in NC a couple of years ago. But, I'm not quite sure what's going on with the apparently credible (?) claims of voter fraud in currently going on in NC. It's sometimes tough to get good coverage north of the border for more local things like that. So, I'm a bit out of the loop. So....can anybody fill me in / get me up to speed on what's going on in NC?

Should I take everyone's silence as, "if it doesn't involve bashing Trump or AOC, we don't pay attention"?

I haven’t read up on North Carolina, Optimus. I’m over in California where multiple races with Republicans ahead when the polls closed went to Dems days later, in a big part due to ballot harvesting. But I will be sure to familiarize myself in the coming days with this most recent example of the vast corruption of the GOP.

Well, what went on in North Carolina wasn't a whole lot different than what went on in California. Both situations involved ballot harvesting. The big difference: it's all actually legal in California right now, thanks to a law passed there in 2016, while it seems likely in NC that some lines were crossed. But in NC, it doesn't appear that only Repubs were crossing lines: Here's what full legalization led to in CA: And in NC--where again this practice is expressly illegal--it was the collected ballots that swung the races, with some people claiming that their ballots were collected without being sealed or even completed. Plus, there's some evidence that suggests "collectors" only turned in ballots that had votes for their party (predominantly Repubs, to be sure). This is all--I think--total bullshit. Political operatives shouldn't be allowed to run around collecting absentee ballots, especially since there's no way to know that this is all they are doing. It's no small step for them to hand out ballots, wait for a person to fill them out, then collect them. Or worse. And here's another rub: the rules against "ballot harvesting" vary from State to State. Some States don't have any laws against it at all. That's crap, especially when it comes to national races, where the same standards should--I think--exist across the board. California pols are patting themselves on the back for the "effectiveness" of the law change, but they're gonna help screw over everyone, as their "success" is simply going to become a template for other States to copy. I'm all for more people voting, I really am. But voting should have a cost. I don't mean a monetary cost, I mean a cost in terms of effort. There should be rules about voting and deadlines as well, whether one is voting at the polls or through the mail. And it's up to the individual voter to follow these rules and meet those deadlines. This push to make voting so easy even a moron can do it is wrong-headed.
