Just for point of info, the clock was at seven minutes to midnight in 1962, when many thought open conflict between the US and the Soviets was a near-certainty. In 1991, it went all the way back to seventeen minutes to midnight because of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Soviet Union; the geniuses of the Bulletin were apparently unable to grasp how much those events would lead to a greater proliferation of nuclear weapons (they eventually realized this, several years down the the road).
