Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu secured a clear path to re-election on Wednesday, with religious-rightist parties set to hand him a parliamentary majority despite a close contest against his main centrist challenger, a vote tally showed.

Meanwhile, Labor took it on the chin, as it seems like a good chunk of its supporters switched to Blue and White (Gantz). Latest numbers show Labor with 6 seats, down sharply from its previous 19.

But... there are still a good number of outstanding ballots, some 300,000, that could actually impact the results to some degree (unlikely to undo Netanyahu's coalition, though)

Looks like Benny Gantz might have a path to become PM over Netanyahu.

As I understand it, this could happen in two ways:

1. If Netanyahu isn't able to form a coalition, then Gantz would himself have an opportunity to form his own coalition.

2. If neither is able to, then Israel would hold yet another election, in which case Gantz could potentially have another chance at forming a coalition.

(In theory, he could simply win outright if there's another election, but that's by far the least likely to happen.)

Not sure what will happen, but it doesn't sound like Netanyahu staying in power is a foregone conclusion, by any stretch.

Israel’s attorney general indicted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on corruption charges on Thursday, heightening uncertainty over who will ultimately lead a country mired in political chaos after two inconclusive elections this year.

Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit announced the decision, the first of its kind against a serving Israeli prime minister, in a statement and said the charges included bribery, breach of trust and fraud.

If the AG has the evidence to make the charges stick, I say great. Burn his ass down.

Israel's parliament approved a new government on Sunday, ending the record 12-year tenure of Benjamin Netanyahu as prime minister and swearing in a fragile, diverse coalition that has promised to break the country's political gridlock.

The change came by the slimmest of margins, with 60 votes in favor and 59 opposed in Israel's 120-member Knesset. One member abstained.

Far-right politician Naftali Bennett, who once worked for Netanyahu, becomes Israel's new prime minister for two years in a coalition agreement that includes eight separate parties and is led by Bennett and centrist Yair Lapid.

Lapid will serve as foreign minister and become prime minister after Bennett's two-year stint.

Maybe not the most ideal outcome, but at least Netanyahu is out.
