For what it's worth, probably not much, but Krischer is right that the feds always hold the reins when there is shared jurisdiction. They're like the big brother (or bully) so if they want the case, they get it. If they don't the state handles it.

I get that, which is why I think it's obvious that Acosta's attempt to shift all the blame to Krischer's office is bs. But at the same time, Acosta is right I think about what Krischer was prepared to do with the case. Krischer wasn't trying to put the hammer down on Epstein at all and if it had been up to him, Esptein's sentence would have been even lighter, as hard as that may be to imagine. Neither one of them was particularly concerned about justice, much less about the victims. ETA: And Acosta has resigned now, regardless: www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/labor-secretary-acosta-out/index.html

As serious as self-harm and suicidal ideation are....I can't really bring myself to feel any sympathy for him.

Yep, you're going to see a bunch of them. You have a high-profile prisoner who had already attempted suicide. He's also connected to big names such as Bill Clinton and Donald Trump. He was on suicide watch, yet somehow he managed to take his own life. You may not be able to prevent all suicides, but what was the situation here that they weren't able to stop this one? It might just be gross incompetence, or it might be incredible indifference. Maybe the guards in charge of watching him specifically decided they would just pretend to be taking a leak when he was taking his own life. I think there are legitimate questions that need answers, but some will jump straight to murder.

Wow. I thought that if I have say a 100k when I bite the big one, and I owe 50k in bills, they get there's and the rest goes to whomever I left it with.

Cass might know better than me, but I think in many states (and under federal law?!) if you pull some stunt like this in an obvious way to avoid having funds to pay out on a lawsuit, the transfer is invalid. I know there's a word for it but I'm in day 7 of a jury trial and my brain isn't working right now.

I don't know if Epstein's trust will hold up--I kinda doubt that it will--but it just strikes me as unbelievably cruel in a Leona Helmsley sort of way. Because even if it doesn't hold up, it's going to create additional headaches for those suing him. Here's the actual document, btw: www.scribd.com/document/422423833/Jeffrey-Epstein-will#download&from_embedIt's really not clear where his money is going to end up, from what I can see, apart from in the "1953 Trust."

It's not just you. Plus, when the revelation comes from that well-known bastion of truth and clarity called Fox & Friends....

NY Times writes it up, although it's driven by what was on Fox & Friends. This part...Leads me to believe the door is open, but not by much. Mostly, it looks like people just wanting the juicy story vs the more realistic story. As I understand, suicide happens often in prisons and there's very little done in way of prevention.
