I think you make a good point here. Of course, it's true the other way around: Repubs defending Kavanaugh wanted the highest standards of proof then, whereas here a mere allegation will do. But that's politics for ya. Indeed. The difference for me is that I expect that from the Republicans. In my view, hypocritical dipshittery is par for the course with them. Mitch McConnell is the poster child for that kind of trash behavior (he's pretty much the real-life equivalent to Darth Sidious). I'm only disappointed when the left does it (granted, most of the time it's the far left and I can't stand fringe nutbags in general, no matter what side of the aisle they're on).

Tangent: As an actual conservative-type-person, I'd just like to say that I agree with almost all of this.* I DO expect this kind of hypocrisy from Republicans/the Right as a matter of course. Not from all of them, to be sure, but frankly from the great majority of them. That's why is so fucking hard for me to find people to vote for; I'm always settling for a lesser of two evils. I can either pick the side that is ideologically fucked but generally not full of douchey hypocrites (the Left), or the side that at least gives lip service to correct viewpoints yet is peopled--and supported--mostly by douchebags and morons. This kinda blows... * I'd disagree that it's only the far left "most" of the time, but this strikes me as an issue of personal perception, with regards to both the "most" and deciding on what qualifies as the far left.

Translation:
I took it upon myself to borderline threaten a complete stranger, demanding a comment on something that's really none of my business, and can you believe she failed to comply?

Both can be true. Both can be (But probably unlikely to be) false. What is true beyond a doubt is the hypocrisy on display. The believe all woman has become "we mean take them seriously, investigate" however that standard, while completely reasonable, is applied only to Biden. It's the lesson of Al Frankin. Don't sacrifice one of your own. This will not be applied to the next high powered person that the D's insist is needed. And it won't apply to anyone else. blog.simplejustice.us/2020/05/16/the-big-believe-all-women-lie-that-sits-atop-all-the-little-lies/

I think the fact that many of those people said Reade "spoke favorably of Biden" is largely inconsequential. People deal with trauma (assuming there was some) in different ways and aren't always forthcoming in this regard. But the fact that so many people seem to remember Reade as a manipulative pos grifter is pretty strong evidence that she's a manipulative pos grifter who should be disbelieved in all things as a matter of course, including her allegations against Biden.

I agree with that article. Although I don't know that I believe in the system, especially as the system becomes more woke.
Recently, a coworker of mine told me her son, a senior in high school, was accused of rape. He had gone to hang with friends. He did some snowmobiling then went to hang at a house. Some were drinking, he wasn't. Her accusation was that he went into a bedroom where she was, she was half passed out from drinking, and he forced himself on her. She screamed, nobody came.
There were about 13-14 other people in the house at the time, including an adult who may have brought the booze. They all said she fell asleep on the couch in full view of most of the people there. She got up and asked everyone where he went. She went into the bedroom where he'd fallen asleep and a few moments later he came out. He was pissed because she was dating his friend and she hit on him. She accused him 6 months after the fact. The prosecutor had once prosecuted his father who has nothing to do with the kid. The prosecutor commented that he felt it was his place to make sure the victim had her day in court. But there was 0 evidence. The jury returned in less than a 1/2 hour with a nonguilty and the mom told me they couldn't understand why this made it to trial.
The kid was kicked out of school and only allowed to return with police escort until after the trial. Lost his job. Trying to put his life back together. Thankfully the only ones who seemed to believe the girl was her parents, and the prosecutor.

And another one (lawyer) bites the dust... www.politico.com/news/2020/05/22/lawyer-drops-tara-reade-as-client-274635Uh huh....so, they still think her case is credible (or they're at least implying that) but they're gonna drop her as a client anyway? I'm not a lawyer, and michaelw or markesq (is he even still around?) or whomever is a lawyer can set me straight on this, but if the case were as solid as the pro-Bernie, anti-Biden media figures (e.g., Krystal Ball and Saagar Enjeti at The Hill) seem to think, surely her lawyer wouldn't drop her, no? Or, even if her sexual harassment case is credible, could there be a compelling reason a lawyer would drop a client anyway? This looks more suspect to me given that several lawyers refused to take her as a client at first and she wasn't able to find a lawyer until she (arguably) drastically changed her story to be much more creepy and salacious than it had ever been before. Continuing... Anyway, not sure if this is a sign of things to come, but it does seem to fit a pattern of Reade being dishonest and manipulative (I still suspect there many be something diagnosable going on with her) and is something to keep an eye on.

I don't know specifics of this case, of course, but I can tell you that lawyers are ... hang on, ethical lawyers are never going to represent a client who has been known to lie while under oath. A lawyer can lose his or her license because they may be seen as 'sponsoring' such testimony.
The other factor may be as simple as a financial one. One of the main reasons a lawyer will drop a client is because they haven't paid their bills, so it might just be that, and the timing makes it look like something else.

I guess this puts her lawyer dropping her into clearer context. He likely knew what was coming and knows that she's a con-artist.
