Opinions on the "debate"?
I watched about 30 minutes in total. Not all at once, because I couldn't take it in anything more than 3-5 minute intervals. I learned absolutely nothing. Trump was an obnoxious jackwagon in every segment I saw. But Biden didn't have anything to say, apart from "I'm not Trump."
I think back to the first Gore-Bush debate and yearn for such moments...

It reinforced the depressing fact that out of 330 million or so people these are the best two we could find to run for President.

Opinions on the "debate"? The quotation marks really say it all, right?

If there was a debate, it was between Wallace and Trump.

It was a clusterTrump. Certainly a trash fire. Nothing of substance was said by Trump. Biden tried, but his attempts were rather hollow.
It totally reinforced my belief that:
a) there should never be a live audience (the audience was sparse this time due to COVID-19, and it was definitely a benefit), and; b) the moderator should have a microphone "kill switch" so he/she can mute the candidates when they go over their time. Treat it like a Zoom meeting and if the candidate (like Trump) won't STFU, then the moderator can make sure that they do.
Microphone muting should be standard practice in debates from now on.

"The debate"
I thought it was pretty cool that there was 100s of youtube channels to watch it on in real time. At least one of them had the audio with cartoon characters as the visuals.
I didn't care much for Biddens support of antifa and blm violence in Portland.
I was disappointed in Trumps performance overall, was expecting a little more humor.
This seemed to me as the most progressive debate ever. I'm looking forward to the 2024 debates.

I was surprised Wallace didn't threaten to turn the debate around and head home if both of them didn't behave. (Trump was far more obnoxious.)

Beyond the, my God they're both idiots, and Trump really needs to shut up (He deserves more scorn than Biden) the question is, what, if anything, did we get out of it?
My take:
Trump: came across as an obnoxious, pompous ass. I could go into detail about everything he did that made that true, but I think we can sum it up by saying it's because he is an obnoxious, pompous ass. However, he got a few good moments out of it. For one, he made the case that Biden will shut the economy down again. He got Biden to refuse to promise not to try to expand the Supreme Court if he's elected. (I wish that had been pressed more, there was no reason to not say that, unless you plan on it.) Beyond that, I don't think there was much, but it was such a shit show, it's hard to tell.
Biden: At times, came across as confused and not as sharp as he used to be. He wasn't the same guy who debated with Paul Ryan. His best moment was the humanizing about Hunter, he had a drug problem but he's rebuilt his life. He looked right in the camera, and that was a connection. But he wouldn't distance himself from the hard left as much as he should.
Will this change minds? Unlikely. However, it could still have an impact. I don't think there's much Biden can do to make people hate Trump more than what they do. If you hate him, you already do and you will vote for Cthulhu over him. If you're ambivalent, all you got is a reminder of how he's an obnoxious, pompous ass. If you love Trump, you cheered the loudest. I don't think it motivated anyone to go out to vote Biden if they weren't already.
What Trump needs to do is make sure enough people think Biden's so bad he's not worth voting for. If nobody turns up, it goes to Trump. However, with an increase in mail-in ballots, that might be too tall an order.
I also think Chris Wallace is sitting in a corner, hugging a puppy, rocking back and forth this morning.

Yeah, I'm of the opinion that both these guys have all the support their going to get. Nether will win any more as far as numbers.
At this point, I believe they can only lose votes, remembering that there is no law (yet) that seys anyone has to vote.
So to my mind, the question comes down to who has the most to lose as far as votes?
Trump left himself a little bit of wiggle room with the proud boys and the like groups.
Biden? he shit all over the Bernnie bros big time, that's a huge voting block. Dangerous move in my view
If a person is going to get fucked ether way, why bother?
We are way past the time when shutting down the mic would have been an effective solution.
Oh crap! Did I just drop a penny?

It's not just losing votes, it's the enthusiasm to vote for you, or against the other person. Some ppl hate Trump, but if Biden becomes too bitter a pill to swallow, they may abstain. But as this year is like nonother with mail-in ballots, how does that translate.

But as this year is like nonother with mail-in ballots, how does that translate. I think there remains real and true enthusiasm for Trump among his hardcore nutters. There's no getting around that, for better or worse. Sanders has the same thing (just not enough of it). So did Obama. It's cult of personality stuff. But I think Trump can do real damage to the "enthusiasm" of the rest of his supporters, the ones who support because he's the outsider, because he's for lower taxes and deregulation, and so on. Many of them have talked themselves into their support for Trump. There's a point--different for every one of them, no doubt--where Trump's bullshit causes them to walk away. And these debates are giving Trump plenty of rope to hang himself. Maybe they vote for Biden, maybe they don't vote at all. As to Biden...there are few things more entertaining right now than watching a huge chunk of people--intelligent, informed people--feign enthusiasm for Biden. I see it on my social media feeds every day. They share clips and what-not from or about Biden and act like he's just awesome times ten. I don't know that these debates will have any impact on them, whatsoever, no matter how useless Biden comes across.

And this is some next level bullshit "fact-checking" here: The truth about Hunter Biden's military historyTrump said Hunter Biden was "dishonorably discharged" from the Navy. Technically, that appears incorrect. But running stories and tweeting about it to defend Hunter? Jesus, Biden folks, use your fucking brain. Hunter got a sweetheart commission to the Naval Reserves (he was over the accepted age, so he had to get a waiver; gee, I wonder how he got that) as a public affairs officer, simply to pad his resume. Then he tested positive for cocaine, so the Navy cut him loose. But they did so with an administrative discharge, which let the son of the sitting VP slink away without a complete loss of pride. And Biden defenders are actually choosing this hill die on? Look, they've even hit up Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hunter_Biden#Naval_careerLol, sure it was cigarettes. Reality: known drug fiend Hunter Biden got kicked out of the Naval Reserves for failing a drug test. Trying to spin that away is pathetic. Biden supporters who are participating in such bullshit are exactly why I sometimes think that maybe I shouldn't vote for either of these losers.

I'm not. jo20.com/I know she doesn't stand a chance but since I'm in NY, which will go blue regardless, I'd rather vote for her than either of these bozos. I don't agree with everything she has to say, but she's better than the other choices.

I like how the jo20 dot com website gives a "critical error" message every time I click on "issues."
That about sums up my feelings on the Libertarian party for the past 20 years or so.
