Eh, it was getting rave reviews at first so I'm not sure what's happened with some of these reviewers.
I personally don't really give reviewers' opinions much weight given how far off the mark they often (if not usually) are. They thought Captain Marvel was good (because it was woke) but it was awful. They thought Dave Chappelle's latest was awful (because it was anti-woke) and it was amazing.
Fuck movie critics. Watch what you want and judge for yourself.
Oh yeah, and fuck that Vulture critic who gave away the spoiler about Trevor's return (Vulture is kinda garbage in general, though).

I gotta admit, pointless and essentially unjustified "endless love" annoys the crap out of me. I hated it in The Watchmen series on HBO (killed the whole thing for me) and I don't see how this is going to be much different (in the opposite way). They made Diana a god who was formed of clay. What's the eternal attraction to Pine's character? Huge dick?

No necessarily huge dick but first dick, probably. She grew up on an island of warrior women. They say your first love is your greatest. Maybe for goddesses from Themyscira, that also applies to schlongs?

You'd think she'd have sampled something from the buffet in the intervening years...

Amazing that Hanks went from that to most beloved and trusted film star of a generation, if not of all time.

So I watched Wonder Woman 84 last night with the family.
I've also recently re-watched Batman vs. Superman, Justice League and the 1st Wonder Woman. Thinking about writing reviews of them all on a blog sharing more in-depth thoughts, just for the sake of content.
However, he's my take, trying to avoid spoilers.
Was WW84 as good as the 1st? No. There was a sense of wonder (no pun intended) in the 1st that's absent in the 2nd. Why? Because we often saw Wonder Woman through the eyes of Steve and the others who couldn't believe what they were seeing. Here, her companion is Steve who knows what she can do.
The 80's stuff. Okay, yes there's a lot of kitschy references. The fact is, with the movie being set in the '80s, there was no way to avoid it. Fashions were different, bigger, and louder. The fact is, we see the same stuff in the 1st movie which is set in 1918. A great moment of that is played up in the scene where they take Diana shopping. Same here to a certain extent. The problem is the first film is darker, and so out of place, it's feels more like a period piece. Here, since the '80s were about color and brightness, it comes off differently.
The big bad guy comes off as a reflection of the '80s, the "me generation" about wanting more and more. It's hard here to talk about what works and doesn't without spoilers. So if I do get around to writing that review, I'll have more there.
The plot here has to do with an artifact that grants wishes, but for a price. It lack the same gravitas as the 1st, in part because we could picture (With a healthy dose of suspension of disbelief) that the first took place within our current understanding of historical events. The stuff that happens in 84 is too global to fit in with history. The events themselves are so enormous, the idea that the existence of Wonder Woman would not be common knowledge.
In the end, is it worth watching? Yes, but it's not going to leave you floored like the first one did.

I'm a huge DC fan, much more than Marvel. Having said that...
Batman v Superman kind of sucked for various reasons, but mostly because Synder tried to cram too many twists/villains into it. Lex Luthor PLUS Doomsday PLUS "Death of Superman"...it was too much, and none of it executed competently. Snyder should have stuck to one main villain and done it well. BvS fell victim to the same problem as Spider-man 3 and The Amazing Spider-man 2; i.e., too many villains and none of them done well.
Lex Luthor was horribly miscast in BvS. In real life, Jesse Eisenberg comes across as a super weird dude (from what I can tell) and a bit of an aloof asshole. And he played Lex as if he were a socially inept weirdo, not a cold, calculating evil genius like the actual character. Out of all of the live action Lex's that I've seen, I think Michael Rosenbaum (from Smallville) did the best job and really captured the naunce in Lex's character.
Lex's plan also made no damned sense. And don't get me started on the "Martha" thing.
However, BvS: The Ultimate Edition (director's cut) is actually a lot better than the theatrical release, even if it does still suffer from the same problems listed above.
The first Wonder Woman movie was great up until the boss battle in the 3rd act being nothing but a CGI clusterfuck.
Don't get me started on "Josstice League." It was just a steaming pile of shit. Ezra Miller is also horribly miscast as Barry Allen, but Joss had Miller play Barry as if he's also a complete socially awkward weirdo. Despite the fact that Wally West is the best Flash anyway, the way Miller played Barry Allen is NOT Barry Allen. I don't know if that's Miller's fault or Whedon's, but it was trash regardless.
I'm looking forward to seeing Synder's version of Justice League next year. I have hope but I'm trying to keep my expectations in check, based on the fact that we haven't seen a truly good DC movie (other than WW) since Nolan's Batman trilogy.

BTW, we kinda of need an entertainment forum here. Could probably ax some of the forums nobody posts in anymore and replace with an entertainment forum for movies, TV, video games, wresting, etc.

Soooo...I watched it today.
The reviews I posted are too kind.
*spoiler alert*
There's a "car chase" scene in Egypt that's just effing stupid.
Steve gets in the cockpit of what appears to be an F-14 and learns to fly it like a pro in less than a minute, simply because he was a pilot in 1918.
Wonder Woman "flies" in what is both a cheesy and visually unimpressive manner.
Diana has this pathetic, whiny monologue where she complains about her life and wonders why she can't have "just this one thing (Steve)." Oh. My. God. She's a GOD. She lives well, she has clothes that are to die for, especially shoes.
She also pulls a Highlander and magically equips herself with armor that she had no immediate access to.
Then there's the actual plot of the movie. It really doesn't make any sense. And nothing is explained, apart from a silly bit from a wannabe Mayan shaman who lives next to a used records store.
Then there's the eighties stuff and the total lack of fitting it in to the actual movie. And I don't think there's a single outfit Diana wears that could have come from the eighties, honestly.
*end spoilers*
And speaking of Highlander, Diana heeds to get her ass to the theaters in a couple of years (1986) so she can grok why an IMMORTAL GOD can't behave like a love-struck teenager all the time.
