Okay, so there are moments when I'd really like to dredge up the past because, frankly, I remember everything. Specifically in this case, I'd like to dredge up good ol' Dick Cheney and all the heat he caught for not simply allowing some citizen to publicly accost him. See, I had--and still have--this notion that elected officials still get to live their life, that people don't get to run up on them and scream at them--or film them--in restaurants, movie theaters, or the like. Back in the day, when the Secret Service stepped in and stopped this guy from going nose-to-nose with Cheney, I remember being told by people on the Left that the guy should be allowed to confront Cheneny, because Cheney works for him. When I offered up the idea that the Secret Service couldn't let it happen because the guy could have been dangerous, I was poo-pooed. And here's a thread on this board with a similar discussion: thecollinegate.boards.net/thread/1193/refusing-service-trump-admin
I would so much like to hear from all of the people who have disagreed with me on this issue, to let me know if they think Wheeler was justified or if they think he should be arrested for assaulting that citizen. Me, I he was justified. I mean, he's still an assclown, but accosting him in a restaurant then following him outside is over the line.
For the second time this month, Mayor Ted Wheeler was confronted at a restaurant.
According to a police report, this confrontation ended when the mayor pepper sprayed a man who followed him to his car.
According to the report, Wheeler was leaving the Hillsdale McMenamins Brewery and Public House with former mayor Sam Adams when a man confronted him, accusing the mayor of not wearing a mask inside the restaurant.
The report says the mayor told the man under COVID regulations people are allowed to take off their face mask for eating and drinking.
The police report claims the man was videotaping the mayor and followed the mayor to his car, not wearing a face mask.

Police on Tuesday identified a man who was pepper-sprayed by Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler as a partner at a law firm who also tried to obtain surveillance footage of the mayor in a restaurant and get a copy of his meal receipt.
An additional police report identified Cary Cadonau as the man who was pepper-sprayed by Wheeler after he confronted the mayor leaving a restaurant Sunday evening and accused him of not wearing a mask. No charges have been filed in the incident. Cadonau didn't immediately return an email seeking comment.
