I've been continuing to follow everything in Myanmar, but it's been pretty much nothing but bad news from what I've seen.
Mya Thwate Thwate Khaing, the lady mentioned in the Reuters piece above, also passed away (although the article never got updated, I don't think).
The whole thing is just a total horror show. I wish more could be done, but it really looks like the military is here to stay, unfortunately.

Wikipedia says 60,000 people died in the Arab Spring, although that's leaving out the subsequent war deaths in Syria, Libya, and Yemen. And I'd probably say that Yemen in particular hasn't really been on many radars over the years, even though things have steadily gotten worse there.
That said, I agree, more coverage of what's happening in Myanmar is needed, since the lack of coverage only helps the military and more coverage might--in some ways--benefit the protest movement. There are some relatively small-time journalists I'm following on FB who have done a great job covering everything, and a lot of Burmese are also active on social media and sharing information. I try to read up and keep track as much as I can, although I still feel relatively helpless in the grand scheme of things.
And I agree, the protesters--some of whom are very, very young--deserve a lot of respect. Beyond the fact that they're being ignored, one can't emphasize enough just how much risk they're subjecting themselves to, on an individual level. No one participating in the protests can possibly expect restraint from the military at this point, even if they might show some level of restraint every now and then in specific cases. The protesters are getting shot at and yet they're still showing up. I don't know that I could do it, myself.

That's like a couple of months wages for the typical person in Myanmar.
