At least he didn't do something serious, like mis-gendering someone.

As stupid as this bootlicking was, I imagine that he was forced by Universal or one of the other higher ups to apologize. I doubt this is something that his steroid-addled brain came up with on his own. It was likely one of those "apologize or you'll get black balled" situations.

That could very well be the case, but it would be nice if some of the Hollywood crowd (I include pro athletes here)--who like to imagine they're always a primary part of any fight for "social justice" or the like--who have banked their multi-millions would have the stones to stand up for this sort of bullshit.
But they won't. And that's because fundamentally they're greedy af, as greedy as the capitalist pigs they like to criticize. Probably even moreso.

Actually, there's another wrestling angle here. The latest episode of Dark Side of the Ring is about "Collision in Korea" also know as "Pyongyang International Sports and Culture Festival for Peace." It was a wrestling event held in North Korea in 1995.
Ric Flair attended, as did one of the Road Warriors and--oddly enough--Chris Benoit. It's some scary-assed totalitarian stuff.
Sure, China isn't North Korea, but China has had North Korea's back for a long time. And Cena should respect his sport's history in this regard. Imo.

Has Jon Cena been an outspoken "woke warrior" in the past? I don't recall him being much of a public SJ advocate. As an overall point about Hollywood writ large, I agree with you. In this specific case, though, I don't sense there's much hypocrisy here on Cena's part.

I think I'm just disappointed.
I KNOW--just as you know--that wrestling personas aren't real, that they're an act, even when they're somewhat grounded in reality and when wrestlers try to keep (or can't help keeping) kayfabe in their real lives. But I still have expectations.
Jericho would never kiss China's ass...

Ha, well Jericho's a Trump supporter, so I agree it's highly unlikely he'd ever kiss China's ass. I've never really liked Cena, as a wrestler or as a person ( too many rumors of him being an all around shitty person, despite his "try hard" attempts at PR with Make-A-Wish appearances), so it's not really possible for me to be disappointed in him, lol.
