I mean, you'd still need to do the application, but there shouldn't be any charge, unless you're replacing a lost/damaged one.
It's one of those issues that always nags at me, insofar as I see it--even if it's a small thing--as an indicator of a government that really isn't fulfilling its primary duties.

Well, there may not be a massive number of people w/ similar anecdotes, I agree, but I think the overall number of US adults without a current, up-to-date, government-issued ID is still pretty significant. Yeah that's a pretty good piece, IMO. And I think it may be true that voter ID laws don't have much of an impact, in the sense of actually swinging elections one way or the other. Of course, that could be true about voter fraud as well, don't you think? The ending to that piece (quoted below) was something I really think is crucial, though... Lopez gets it, IMO. There's nothing wrong with trying to understand the impact of various laws, but that doesn't mean impact is the only important metric here. If there are people trying to put their thumb on the scale, but they aren't very competent at doing it, I am not sure I see the latter as really compensating for the former, you know? (And, FWIW, Georgia actually does require a government-issued photo ID to vote, yet a lot of people on the right seem convinced that their election was still full of fraud. OTOH, in Kentucky, you can vote using a social security card, and apparently in Ohio you can use a utility bill. Make of that what you will. ) Don't get me wrong, I oppose most voting restrictions. Yes, I think that opposition to voter ID laws is stupid and driven purely by race-baiting politicians who are just cynically using it as a wedge issue (unsuccessfully, it seems, given current public opinion polls on the issue). However, I think most of the other types of restrictions that state GOP shit-heads (that's the most polite way I can sum up my feelings on most GOP politicians) are craven, stupid, often bigoted on their face, and ultimately un-American (as cheesy as that may sound). I'm 100% in support of sensible voter ID laws. But the "West Wing - Bartlett Administration" in me is 100% against most of the other restrictions the GOP tries to put into place. Voting should be made as easy as possible for all legal citizens who can provide official ID. Mail-in voting should be widely available to everyone, regardless of circumstance. Polling locations should be increased. Election Day should be a holiday and employers should be required to give employees time off to go vote in state and local elections.

How easy would it be to offer a basic voter id law. Any id with a picture should be fine. But the GOP takes it too far, just like the dems do for opposition.

Seems hilariously fitting that the company producing this Kamala Harris spot is named "Sinking Ship."

Haven't had time to read that article yet but I read today that her approval rating is hovering around 28%, which has been described as the "lowest in modern history" for a VP (I wonder if that includes Cheney?).
Given that Biden's approval rating is barely 10% points higher, the Dems really need to come up with a plan for 2024. Majority of Dems don't want Biden running again, and majority of the US public seem to not want Harris to run at all.
Dems need to find a superstar in the next year or they're toast in 2024.

Omg, that's amazing. Seems maybe Biden has been coaching her on how to give speeches.
