www.cnn.com/2016/11/10/politics/calexit-donald-trump/index.htmlFirst off, I don't think there is a "constitutional exit" available for a State to leave the Union. Aside from going to war. Secondly, aren't the secessionists in Texas mocked repeatedly whenever they show up in the news? It's like everything that was wrong is now suddenly right. Right?

O.M.G.
I've seen a few comments like this on Facebook, too. As a rabid fan of secession down to the individual level, I certainly remember taking a huge amount of grief from those on the left about it, pre-Trump. What a joke that some on the left are now adopting that position.

As a native Californian who has never lived anywhere else, I can say with confidence that this is lunacy. Our budget is always in crisis (thanks Dems) and we have more immigrants (illegal and legal) than any other state in the union -- there is no way we could support the social services they need without aid from the federal government. Unless all the tech gurus decide to throw in some billions each, I can't fathom this. Actually, it's insulting to me as an American.
I really wish people would stop panicking and calm down. Trump has acted more maturely since his election than these people who are overreacting. (See his victory speech and his comments about meeting with President Obama )

Just because they don't want to be a part of America, doesn't mean they don't want to still receive federal funds from America.

In a similar vein, I'm seeing a lot of "I'm packing up and moving to Canada/Ireland/Some Other Utopian Country!!11!" With at least two people I've seen making actual, solid plans to move.
Because I guess freaking out is easier than trying to fix what's wrong.

If they're successful, would that mean action flicks will count as watching a foreign films? I could be so cultured!!!

I still consider myself a Californian, though I no longer live there. Secession? Never happen.
Now I'd be all for Northern California splitting away from Southern California.

Now that pot's legal, will the North actually be economically viable on its own? I know there's a lot of prime growing territory up there.

Southern California's agriculture relies entirely on pumping the north's water (and the Colorado River) into deserts.

Because I guess freaking out is easier than trying to fix what's wrong. I shall not freak out. I much prefer to run amok. In real life, I'm bring very, very gentle with some of my friends just now. Having people tell one to calm down when one is upset is useless at best and infuriating at worst. And besides, I get why they're upset -- I have a heap of concerns myself. But I'm hoping that (1) the worst will not materialize, and (2) the shock will eventually subside and we can talk more calmly. If/when we need to take action, I'm with them. (unless that action is beating up people in parking lots or setting cop cars on fire). Meanwhile, I'm just shutting up with a lot of folks for the time being. By the way, thank you folks for being able to discuss all this stuff. It calms me down, cheers me up, and makes me feel more hopeful to do so. And it's really nice to see some familiar screennames and avatars smiling back at me. .

The worst part, they didn't even bring marshmallows to the fire. I mean, who does that?

Some people simply don't think, Vince. I mean, you can't just count on the convenience store you're going to loot. What if they're out of marshmallows? You need to plan ahead.

Now that pot's legal they probably won't much care. Now that pot's legal, will the North actually be economically viable on its own? I know there's a lot of prime growing territory up there.
