Putting this here because of content...
Chappelle's "last" Netflix special premiered the other day. I watched it. My takeaways:
It wasn't as funny as his past specials.
His "tough guy/beat the shot out people" stuff doesn't work at all and it sometimes makes him seem like a real assclown, imo.
He makes some good points, though, on how some groups (trans folk, in this case) want to be--and are--treated as if they were a racial or ethnic group when there are benefits to be had.
Anyway, predictable pearl-clutching: news.yahoo.com/dear-white-people-showrunner-why-060702325.html

Dear White People’s showrunner Jaclyn Moore has revealed the reason behind why she’s “done” with Netflix after the release of Dave Chappelle’s special The Closer.
Following an announcement on Twitter on Wednesday (6 October) that she would no longer work with Netflix after watching Chappelle making numerous jokes about trans women, Moore has further discussed the reason behind her decision in an interview with Variety.
“I never loved Dave’s trans material before but this time it felt different,” said Moore, who transitioned during the pandemic. “This is the first time I felt like, ‘Oh, people are laughing at this joke and they’re agreeing that it’s absurd to call me a woman.’”

GLAAD issued a statement about the special, saying, “Dave Chappelle’s brand has become synonymous with ridiculing trans people and other marginalized communities. Negative reviews and viewers loudly condemning his latest special is a message to the industry that audiences don’t support platforming anti-LGBTQ diatribes.”

In a statement to Deadline, National Black Justice Coalition executive director David Johns called for The Closer to be removed from Netflix.
“With 2021 on track to be the deadliest year on record for transgender people in the United States — the majority of whom are Black transgender people — Netflix should know better. Perpetuating transphobia perpetuates violence,” Johns said. “Make no mistake: Black LGBTQ+ and same gender people exist — and have always existed. The fight against oppression is not a zero game, and the pervasiveness of white supremacy in the United States is not an excuse for homophobia or transphobia.”
