Apparently Russia is restricting Twitter and Facebook, CNN is pulling out, WWE is pulling out, and now there's a campaign to get Coca Cola to pull out, as well. At this rate, Russia's going to be the healthiest, most well-adjusted country in the world.

This one blew my mind: www.nytimes.com/2022/03/03/sports/olympics/paralympics-russia.htmlIt's Carter-esque in its stupidity. What is banning these athletes--who aren't even professionals--from competition going to accomplish? On the flip side, Chelsea's owner--Roman Abramovich--is selling the club because of the negative publicity (and also because he's worried about the sanctions). This is--in my view--great news for world football, since he's been buying titles for years and is largely responsible for driving up transfer costs (along with the morons running Barcelona).

Yeah, seen a handful of stupid celebrities (e.g., Stephen Colbert, George Takei) say similar things this week. Both deservedly got dragged on Twitter for it (I suppose that's the modern metric for measuring bad takes). Colbert's "joke" from his show was especially arrogant, as he said that "it's a small price to pay for a clear conscience," or something to that effect. Really disappointing to see what a woke shill he's become over the past few years. He was brilliant on Comedy Central. Now he's just an unfunny loser.
Just more proof how out of touch rich elites are. Sure, it's easy for them to pay a lot more at the pump and/or ride around in Teslas. What's an extra $50 to $60 a month in gas when you have $10 mil in the bank? But for most working people - especially those who are lower income working class - an increase of a dollar or two per gallon of gas can be devastating. Rich Hollywoke assholes don't seem to understand that not everyone is a multi-millionaire and that a lot of us work paycheck to paycheck just to barely make ends meet.

Not only gas will and is going up, but look for the price of any wheat based product to go up as well. Ukraine can no longer ship wheat due to the war, and Russia can't either due to sanctions and the new 35% tariff.
Damn, we just about get this Covid mess under control, now this. It's enough to make a man go back to drinking.

Windmills would last longer if they were coated in horse paste. Everybody knows "worms" are the real issue.

I often wonder how stupid Biden's administration thinks that people are? The US is the world's top oil producing country. We import only a small fraction of our daily oil from Russia (majority comes from Canada, followed by Mexico), which amounts to less than 700,000 barrels/day out of slightly over 8 million. We could easily compensate for this ourselves if we need to. Sure, Russia supplies to other nations too, so this conflict may limit their supplies and can affect prices, but prices were already going up before the conflict and seems to be largely driven by the "let's just make shit up" speculative market. Gas prices (and inflation in general) were starting to skyrocket before the Russia-Ukraine situation. Biden's just using it as an excuse to cover up his own inpetness at his job.

Maureen Dowd is a Zelinsky cultist, too: While Putin shrinks, Zelenskiy soarsAnd she has to get in a dig at Trump in the piece, as well: Unsurprisingly, she has nothing to say about Biden and his admin. Sure, sure, Putin is a big loser and this is all Trump's fault, even as we--the US of A--are looking at runaway inflation and food shortages and countries like China and India are actively trying to subvert the Biden admin's sanctions against Russia. But all hail Zelinsky...

Okay, here's a piece from Niall Ferguson: www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2022-03-22/niall-ferguson-putin-and-biden-misunderstand-history-in-ukraine-warWhen Ferguson is in a room, he is always one of the smartest people in that room. He has a better handle on economics, history, and their relationship to war and diplomacy than anyone currently alive (with the possible exception of Robert Kaplan). The piece above is particularly noteworthy to me because Ferguson takes issue with comments made by Francis Fukuyama (who is also very, very smart, imo). It is--in my view--a sobering take on current conditions that should cause a few shivers in people who are paying attention. Would that we could get Dem and Repub leadership to read it...
