The Colline Gate is a forum for the discussion of politics and current events, along with related subjects like philosophy and economics.
All viewpoints are welcome, but we have some rules (let us lay them down):
1) Please be respectful to others. No name-calling, no personal attacks. Disparage arguments to your heart's content, however.
2) Bring your "A" game. Back up specific claims with evidence, avoid logical fallacies, and explain your points when asked to do so.
3) No naked partisanship. This isn't DU or Free Republic. Feel free to have a point of view, but have something more to back it up.
4) No discussion of other messageboard-style sites, please. Especially nothing disparaging. Recommending other sites for specific reasons is fine.
5) No sock-puppets. That means you can't create a new account in order to post, either because your account has been suspended or because you want to post something but not have it be associated with you.Guest posting by members would count as sock-puppeting.*
6) Remember to not quote articles in full (to avoid copyright issues) and always source any such quotations with a link or--when it's not an online source--with the proper attributions.
7) Whenever possible, if you cite a story on the 'net in a post, notify the originator of the story that you have done so, via twiter, e-mail, or the like.
8) Some members may write articles on other websites, may have blogs, or may otherwise contribute elsewhere. If a member wants to link to such a piece in a thread here because they believe it could be a good topic, that's okay. It's not like we're so large that we're a good site for getting clicks. That said, someone who does nothing but start threads with links to their own pieces will not be welcome here for very long. Message a mod if you're unsure about this. This should be read as applying to other messageboards, as well. If a member posts something on another messageboard, they can post the same thing here--thread start or a reply in a thread--but a) they should note it was already posted elsewhere and place it in quotes, b) they should not include responses from other people at the other messageboard, and c) they do not need to name or otherwise link to the other messageboard, as it's their words and we don't want to send members here to some other board.
* This bit no longer applies, as we have decided to disable Guest accounts from posting. In order to post--or to start a thread--one must now register first (this includes batteries from the 1970's).
