I think we can at least say that those particular anti-Trump folks have gone too far.
I grew up with a Republican mother and Democrat father. My extended family is also divided. I was quite accustomed to having the family disagree on politics and cancel out each other's votes. I will say this for my parents -- neither made an effort to indoctrinate us into a party.
Heh. Now my Republican, Trump-supporting brother is married to a Democratic, Clinton-voting wife, and they have three little daughters who all were cheering for "the girl." (the boy, age 5, has not yet formed an opinion, as far as we know.)
I agree with the neighbor who noted that the mom might have sat down with the kid and explained why she didn't think Trump would be good for their family. But I say do it respectfully. The kid is entitled to form his own views. No doubt he will as he gets older. Forcing your view on him in such an ugly way is most likely to backfire at best.

I would have denounced violence on the part of Trump supporters if he'd lost, and I'm equally disheartened by violence on the part of Clinton supporters now that Trump won. Peaceful protests, fine (though I feel like a lot of that energy could be better spent). But things are getting out of hand.

To be fair, I'm not sure how many of these people doing violence are Clinton supporters as much as their just trouble makers and anarchists.

Yeah - some people will use any excuse to watch the world burn.

I agree I found that promising, and I can only say that I hope your optimism and Oprah's is fully justified. Some of his supporters might be disappointed if Trump fails to live up to some of the more extreme rhetoric on the campaign trail. But I'd be damn happy. If he starts building that wall around Mexico or moving to take rights away from minorities, I will take to the streets and protest. Meanwhile, I'm taking that deep breath and watching.

The actual problem, IMO, is all these people watching/filming and doing nothing to stop it. Actions do indeed speak far louder than words. Cliched, but if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

I'm not the least bit surprised by this reaction, based on spending the last few pre-Trump months (and election day) among a large online crowd of leftists. The left has been increasingly intolerant, while claiming they're the tolerant ones. Regressive, longing for a return to the days of unions and corporate cubicles with guaranteed employment and fighting hard against new, more distributed economic trade models, while claiming to be progressive. More and more willing to place the blame for all the world's problems on "angry rich white men" while claiming to be inclusive and unbigoted. Claiming they'll stand up for truth and justice, just as soon as they can crawl out of their safe space and quit crying if they hear a bad word... like "responsibility" or "work."
As for all the violence, have they forgotten about the crazy people on the right, each of whom they are convinced have dozens of weapons and thousands of rounds of ammunition, and are just waiting for an excuse to see somebody die, so they can cross killing off their bucket list? I wouldn't be rioting if I really believed that of my enemies. They've been aching to disarm us because we're the dangerous ones. Another example of their twisted view of reality.
And quite frankly, I was shocked to see how many are willing to take their ball and go home because they don't like playing by the rules. The left is suffering from progressive infantilism.

On a related note, I've seen some "Michelle/Oprah 2020" and "Oprah/Michelle 2020" posts on Facebook. Srlsy?
These people are protesting a TV star winning the presidency. They've just seen a political dynasty rejected by the majority of voters. They rant on and on about how Trump, being a TV star, is totally unqualified for the position.
Then they post "Michelle/Oprah 2020" memes?
Please, please, let the Dems run that ticket in 2020 against Trump/Pence, with the track record they're going to establish over the next 4 years.
The Libertarians could run Max the Wonder Chimp, with Ed the Talking Horse as VP, and win.

At the risk of being stoned by fellow liberals...I dislike Oprah. She promotes pseudoscience, and (perhaps her greatest sin) she launched Dr. Phil's TV career. I unequivocally do not want her to run for president (not that that would actually happen, but still).
