This is why we can't have nice things.

Seems all those reports of him thoughtlessly tossing the boy's hat into the crowd, rather than to the boy, were all false. He actually did toss it back to the boy: www.snopes.com/trump-bullies-boy-hat-easter/Obviously, liberal media is just as guilty as conservative media of seeing what they want to see and twisting things to fit a narrative. Not that that should surprise anyone. Video from another angle:

The story Cass linked to in the OP was updated to include the new video angle and the following line:
Lol.

And then people laugh at Trump for talking about fake news.

And then people laugh at Trump for talking about fake news. As a matter of principle, I hate fake news. But given how much of it Trump has generated all by himself and with the help of his confederates, I admit my sympathy for him is extremely limited.

The one thing I really don't get is why many people said this video showed Trump "bullying" the boy.
Regardless, this story is an object lesson in "fake news," I think. The angle--whether the news is pro-Trump, anti-Trump, pro-liberal, pro-conservative, or what have you--is inconsequential.
Do a google search for "Trump throws hat" (no quotes). Snopes does show up and does get the story right, but most of the top results have it wrong; none of the ones I checked have updated the story at all (again, the one in the OP IS updated, however lamely).
So I think it fair to assume that most people who only got the first version never got the updated (correct) version. Hell, I probably wouldn't have if Opty didn't post it.
And again, this is true regardless of the political "side" involved, I think.

The word "bullying" is the hot term du jour, which means it is diluted by being used for any situation where someone acts in an undesirable way.
I do think Trump has rather a bullying personality, but in this case, even had Trump thrown the hat into the crowd, it would not be bullying unless Trump did it deliberately, to intimidate or belittle the boy. And come on, no, of course not. In this case, I ascribed it to obliviousness -- he was so into signing hats, he wasn't paying much attention to whom they belonged. I was a hair short of finding it cute. Now, I'm just bored.

Along the same lines of this hat story, we have JK Rowling getting played by assuming an edited video of Trump reflected reality when it really didn't: www.politifact.com/punditfact/statements/2017/jul/31/jk-rowling/jk-rowling-falsely-accuses-trump-not-shaking-disab/Apparently, Chelsea Clinton also went after Trump for this. But the unedited video tells a different tale, wherein Trump very clearly interacts with the boy. And the boy's mother says that he was not trying to shake hands at all, just holding up a Secret Service patch he had been given. Rowling eventually deleted her tweets and apologized to the boy and his family. Not to Trump, however.

There's a lot of this sort of thing. Happened to Obama, too, and to lots of politicians and celebrities, for that matter. It sucks, people shouldn't do it, and we all need to remember to be careful we're not viewing an edited video or reading a distorted version of events.
Trump is still an ass, however. Not for this. Just in general.
