Holy shit. I don't even know what to say. That's just horrifying.

This is one of those situations where I honestly don't know what to say -- it's just so fucked up. And again, I agree with Rob's earlier remark* that I don't see how it can continue without full-scale civil war.
*I think Rob and I have agreed at least three times today. That's just wrong. I'll need to find something to bicker with him about.

This is interesting: www.reuters.com/article/us-venezuela-politics-twitter-idUSKBN1980U1The fact that Maduro is hosting a salsa music program on radio says a lot. But I do wonder what prompted twitter's actions here. I gotta say, if it was driven by politics alone and not any violations of twitter's rules/policies, I've got a problem with it.

How does that differ from a boycott or government sanction, both of which are politically motivated?

Twitter's not a citizen or even a resident of Venezuela. Nor is it a government. And it has terms of service.
If its management is going to arbitrarily shit down accounts because of pure politics, it's not the service it purports to be.
And to be clear, my problem with twitter is my problem. I didn't claim twitter was breaking a law or the like.
If you're fine with it, you're fine with it.

I'm not sure how I feel about it. That's why I asked. I can see arguments both ways. I guess it hinges on the "are corporations people" question.
Although I have never once in my life seen a government held to its supposed "terms of service," and I don't see why people are so willing to give the biggest, baddest corporations out there a pass... and a license to coerce as well. It's certainly not "the service it purports to be."
