So, in the Peacock Feathers thread, I cited a piece--over a year old--by a sci-fi writer. And then I tweeted him a link to that discussion. And he popped in to add some depth to the discussion, to clarify his piece. This is, I think, the way that the "free exchange of ideas" internet is supposed to work. When I cite pieces on my blog that represent analysis, I try to let the authors of these pieces know that I've cited them, either through a comment trail on a news site, through twitter, or even good old-fashioned e-mail (imagine e-mail being "old-fashioned"). More often than not ( far more often), I don't hear back from them. Such is life. I'm small potatoes. Still, I think it behooves us to do this, to let people know when we are talking about what they have written, particularly if we are disagreeing with their analysis. Because this is an actual path forward: civil, meaningful discussion. Thoughts?

I think it's awesome he popped in! I think it's a great idea, too, to let people know when their work comes up here. Added bonus: Some may tweet/share about it, gaining us even more visitors and maybe a few new members. Win-win.

I sure do like that "like" button. Also, yes, I think this is a great idea, and deserves a gold star, in addition to a "like". If I got any discussion on that Peer-to-Peer thread in Economic Theory, I'd let Jeffery Tucker know. (hint, hint) But then the place would probably be overrun with anarchists and lighter libertarians.

Also, I just noticed that in the "actions" menu at the top of each thread, you can easily share the thread on several social media sites (including Facebook and Twitter) or via email.

That's really exciting, Rob! I've had a couple of busy days, but I plan to spend more time here now.

But I truly hope we grow fairly evenly and are not totally swamped down by an overwhelming majority of any point of view. I wistfully hope that this will be the opposite of the echo chambers (and nasty ad hominem fistfights) that proliferate on the internet. Feisty but civil discussion and debate -- wouldn't it be loverly?

Cass gets a like for that subtle reference to "My Fair Lady," and rob gets one for the video.
