If it were done now, it would fail, IMO, simply because the Republicans have total control and while I think many of them are likely off the fervent Trump train at this point, they still would be very unlikely to do anything.
I feel pretty confident more shoes are going to drop, which (I hope) would lead more of them to put country over Trumpy. Or at least, to feel that standing by Trump will do the GOP more harm than good.
I think they should wait for more shoes. But I have a feeling they're coming, and not so very long from now.

I think Trump could post YouTube videos of him and Putin strangling kittens in the Oval Office while talking about classified intel, and the Republicans would refuse to impeach.
It's a pipe dream. We're so far from any kind of bipartisan effort to do what's right for the country - each party will vote exclusively based on what favors their power.

To be fair, a lot of people dislike cats. I think it is quite possible many GOP Congress critters will conclude that it is better for their party to have Pence in the top seat rather than Trump. I agree they are unlikely to impeach unless or until they come to that conclusion -- but I think it is becoming more likely they will. This morning, most prominent Republicans have joined Democrats in hailing the appointment of Mueller as a good thing. It's a refreshing display of bipartisan agreement. But there's one prominent Republican who doesn't agree: So sayeth The Donald. As for Mike Pence, he's busy forming his own PAC.

Well, to be fair, that's before Trump's speech on Islam to Muslim leaders.
Did I mention that speech is being drafted by the execrable Stephen Miller, who helped craft the language of Trump's first yuuuuugely successful travel ban? I mean, what could go wrong?
It is such an obviously bad idea I can't believe his aides aren't all screaming "NOOOOOOO!" and hanging on his coat tails trying to drag him back. If he says anything like his campaign rhetoric he'll infuriate Muslim leaders. If he doesn't, he'll piss off his core base. The potential for disaster is yuuuuge.
I may get some skin in this impeachment game. Assuming Trump doesn't get NYC nuked, I could win bigley. Winning like no one has ever seen, believe me.

Winning like no one has ever seen, believe me. I have to stop reading Canadian newspapers, really. I spent half a minute trying to understand what Winnipeg had to do with all this.

That's just good sense, imo. The talk is out there. Regardless of whether or not there's a legitimate basis for it, it's something that needs to be considered. I'm sure Clinton's people did the same thing the moment impeachment talk had a foothold--however slight--in Congress. Ditto for George W and for Reagan (Iran-Contra).

I thought that might be the case. I'd rather drag down Bannon than Jared, if I had my druthers. Of course, if I had my druthers, Trump would never have come anywhere close to the oval office.
One thing that is just astonishing me about the Russia thing, in particular Trump's remarks about Comey during the Oval Office meeting with Russian leaders, is that they clearly show that Trump regards Russia's leaders as allies and the FBI as his enemy. That's just extraordinary. And he trusts alt-right news sources over U.S. intelligence. It's madness.
ETA:
It's also surreal to have Trump setting off for his first international jaunt just as calls for his impeachment begin to look like they might have some serious ground to stand on.

They don't make druthers like they used to.
But I don't know how one can say Trump thinks of the Russians as allies. He made them look pretty bad when he went after Syria.
Perhaps Trump doesn't see anyone as an ally, beyond a specific moment? That's a lot more defensible.

His allies consist of whoever feeds his ego.

I agree. At least up until he sees a way to use them to benefit himself in some other way. Then, he'll cut them loose without a second thought.
