I'm glad that apparently no one was killed. But I hate this shit even if no one is injured. Of course there will be the inevitable howls of "look how violent the left is!" (And of course, if Democrats had been the target, we'd hear "look how violent the right is!") And the national hostility level is ratcheted up yet another notch.

Good point. Violent, murderous assholes come in all persuasions. But it would be nice if they were all mild-mannered vegans who grow weed instead of shooting people. As usual in incidents like this, I've found a ton of comments on articles and on twitter depressing. Come on, people. Can't we at least agree that shooting people, beating them up, or otherwise inflicting violence on them based on political differences is absolutely freaking wrong? Can't we all agree on condemning the violent assholes, whether they are in our party or another? And can't we also agree that the assholes who do so are representative of themselves, not of every single person in their political party? Come on, does anyone really, truly believe that 50% of the country consists of violent assholes? I did read one thing I liked -- it was in a tweet, and I hope it is true:I really hope that, or something like it, is happening, and it's not just a twitter rumor. That's the kind of thing that should happen after an incident like this. |

Socialism requires force as a factor of its implementation. No collectivist political system can come to fruition without a willingness to initiate violence against those who are unwilling to participate. "Mild-mannered socialist" is a dangerous oxymoron. |

They've been saying that for hours -- I guess he hasn't improved.
I've been checking his twitter feed regularly -- I figure his staff will probably post updates.

btw, the baseball game will go on as scheduled (presumably with some pretty tight security).
It's a great tradition. I'm glad they're going forward. Scalise is apparently a huge baseball fan and would want it that way.

Agree it's bullshit. Frankly, too much of the coverage I've seen in the wake of Mr. Scalise's shooting has been bullshit, from left and right alike. It makes me a little bit sick to see that people politicizing the hell out of this horrible act and past acts like it while Mr. Scalise is still on the critical list. Don't even get me started on Twitter.
