www.theguardian.com/world/2016/nov/17/bollywood-actor-mallika-sherawat-attacked-masked-men-parisSeems reminiscent of the Kim Kardashian incident, yet the attackers left with nothing, apparently. Really bad copy-cats? But is this represent a rebirth of sorts of the Rolex thieves of the 80's/90's (they'd watch for people with Rolexes, then tail them til they got home, then mug them in their driveways)? Or is it just a one-off thing? Something about it troubles me, though I can't quite put my finger on what it is...

Please elaborate, Rob. Is it because it comes on the heels of KK and is only 2.7 miles away from where that happened? Is it because the attackers didn't take anything? I read one version that says they tried to grab Sherawat's bag but she wouldn't let them and started screaming and fighting. Is it because they didn't speak? That's weird, I admit. Makes me think they had accents that could help identify them.

I can't elaborate. I'm not sure what it is that is bothering me about this, as I said.

Speaking of Rolex watches, I found one the other day, on the ground in a parking lot. I matched it online and if real, it would be worth $11,000. Anyway, I will give a prize to anyone who can look at the pic and tell me if it's real or fake. I know the answer. But it doesn't matter anyway, because it had been run over.

Fake. Band is wrong, bezel is wrong.
But there's no way to look at a pic of a Rolex and know that it's real. Some fakes are quite good.

But is says right on the face that it's officially certified!
Yup, fake. The way I could tell is that the second hand is supposed to be sandwiched between the hour and minute hands. OK now I have to think of a prize for you! And you're right - it's hard from a pic. Apparently, with the good ones, you might have to see the movement and such.

Yeah, maybe that's it. Even though this attempt seemingly failed, it strikes me as someone less typical, like the Kardashian robbery. For whatever reason, it seems less like thieves to me and more like professional mercenaries. Maybe because both read to me as so brazen. Does that make sense?

It does and that is also unusual. Muggings in a lobby where cameras are common? If there are similar incidents, it may show a discernible pattern.
